Spent a lot of yesterday with a BMW ActiveHybrid 5 through work. I've not driven a base F10, but the car is very, very good.

They hybrid system on it is fantastic for the most part too - you almost cannot tell when the car transitions between electric mode with the engine off to turning the engine on and engaging the clutch, it's very smooth.

The pedal is a little spongy in the comfort / eco modes, but the car does come alive in sport mode and is pretty quick!

While it claims 44mpg combined, I don't think anybody has ever got anywhere near that. I managed 31mpg this morning on a normal sensible motorway commute that would normally give me ~45+mpg on my Mondeo diesel. So I'd have expected at least high 30's from the BMW.

On the outside, the only things that distinguish it from being a normal 5 series are the silly badges saying "ActiveHybid" everywhere and also the terrible looking wheels!

I certainly wouldn't want to pick one of these up without a concrete warranty though! There's so much to go wrong, and all the high voltage bits are not going to come cheap if they need replacing!

So my 330d needs an oil service, its a 2006 with 79k has fully BMW History with 7 stamps would you keep taking it to BMW at this age and miles? (there is a good specialist up here that I know) I was just looking at how to change the air filter on mine looks like BMW will charge £100 alone for that

Personally I would keep going to BMW if it's already got the FSH

Yeah I think I will too, probably makes little difference to the resale value but should make it more sellable in the future

It helps a lot with part ex values too should you take that route. But yeah, cars like BMWs will benefit a lot more from a FSH when getting rid of it, so it's worth doing

Actually once I got used to it, not too bad. Lacked any kind of grunt so was changing gears a lot but was generally pretty smooth.

Weirdly it kind of felt and sounded like a diesel - not a nice engine sound, gear stick wobble ...

Damn, didn't check out the economy.

Would anyone happen to know what a reasonable price would be for a BMW dealer to change my brake fluid please? I've had a few weird prices all over the place and don't have a clue what it should cost.

Car in question is my E46 330i Clubsport.

Ive got the bill from the previous owner of my 330d from Sytner Leicester, it was £33.17 for the labour, £9.09 for the fluid plus the dreaded VAT, cant see it being any more for a E46 should be less if anything as i think it qualifies for the budget servicing scheme (shame my e90 doesnt)

Had the X3 out and about yesterday (first time in the snow) and it coped admirably I think with drifts all over the place

, we passed stuck landies and others so some bit off more than they could chew .... the other beemer has not so much the last few days though

Mates 335d was £90 for just the fluid for a brake fluid change?!

My mum has just been charged £38 for brake fluid. Once again BMW dealers pulling prices from where the sun don't shine

That was about 2/3 of its final covering I would say. There were drifts up to 10ft in places and loads across main roads of 5ft or so and actually pretty dusruptive in the end!

Just been quoted £105 for a brake fluid change by BMW dealer .... E60 M5

Edit: just noticed you're not too far away from me - I used to live in Alcester.

I live in Studley now, Alcester's a nice little town. Decent high street with quirky shops, grammar school, decent amenities, near Stratford etc. Studley has cheaper houses and more choice of pubs and food places, but that's about it. Redditch however; that's just the pits
