A couple of weeks ago I posted in a thread about Australian Pink Floyd, and the very next day they came up as a recommendation on Facebook.

Today, I have posted in the creme egg thread and this appeared on Facebook

Now as most people know, I'm not a conspiracy theorist, but this does seem to be very unusual.

Has anyone else noticed anything strange afoot online?

that's not a bizarre coincidence, this is a bizarre coincidence;

On the 26th November, 1911, three men were hanged at Greenberry Hill in London after being convicted of the murder of Sir Edmund Berry. Their names were Green, Berry and Hill.

I'm a postman. On my delivery I have 596 addresses.

The other day I had a parcel for re-delivery for an address near the end of my delivery (6 Garvally Crescent). Just as I chapped the door I got a call on my mobile from my office. Just as I answered the customer came to the door, so I explained to the guy from office that customer had came to door and i would speak to him in a second. So I handed the woman the parcel then as I walked down the stairs got phone out my pocket and proceeded to speak to guy from my office. He said that a guy had been in looking for his parcel... The guy stayed at 6 Garvally Crescent, the very house I was just at. So i explained the parcel had been put out for re-delivery in the morning and I had just that very second delivered it.

Bare in mind I am only at each address for a few seconds each and the delivery can take up to 4 hours, it was some coincidence to receive that call asking about that parcel, while I was standing at that very door.

They aren't coincidences.

It's just tracking cookies, text files stored by the browser which remembers logins (e.g. OcUK forums), shopping carts and some advertisers use them based on search queries that you have entered. I get ads for services based in Stafford because I have typed in my town name in a search engine or suchlike.

I was thinking about someone i hadn't seen in years the other day, well, that same day i went into Tesco to get some beers, grab some burgers (joke) etc... And BAM, there this guy was in the same isle as me. I wasn't in the mood to talk though so made a quick exit.

Was abit of a freaky coincidence though i guess.

Ok let me help,

just say for one second that a 'bot' had managed to make a connection between your username here and your facebook id,

and once that connection was made, it scanned your posts for 'info'

to then 'target' you in its demographic?

welcome to marketing in 2013 my friend, been going like this for maybe a year now

yeah but, your correct, its not coincidence, you have at one time shared your Facebook ID and username somewhere on the interweb, or someone else has.

and the connection is done, and its all facebooks side of things, how does it throw a name up of 'someone' I might know, that turns out to be a guy I met 22 years previous at a mates wedding? and never seen again after?
