Nope .... drove to the alps a few weeks ago in the X3 for half term and soon realised that I should have got winters on it and have that as an essential purchase before NEXT winter lol (bought it in November so wanting to keep initial outlay down a bit) .... was not expecting to make use of them so soon tbh after coming back! Still, it fared ok once I got the hang of it in those conditions ... just take it easy and don't brake
Its got hill descent as well which seems to work well ..The M5 is impossible to use in these conditions on its fat summer sports tyres and less that subtle gear box!

BMW Value Service - covers E39 5 Series, E53 X5 and E46 3 Series.
There is also BMW Value Service for E60 now, too.
What doesn't make sense is the following official prices from BMW UK for value service:
E39 Oil Service: £189
E53 X5 Oil Service: £159
E39 Inspection 1: £299
E53 X5 Inspection 1: £249
E39 Inspection 2: £389
E53 X5 Inspection 2: £389
It's fundamentally the same car. The engines are the same. The servicing requirements on the early X5's are the same as the E39. They take the same amount of oil. The same number of microfilters. Somewhat unsuprising given the E53 X5 is basically a 4wd E39 Touring with more heavy duty suspension and chunky wheels.
Yet every service bar the I2 is cheaper on the X5? Why? And if they are, why is the Inspection 2 the same price? The pricing just seems broken.

They literally just seem to get away with what they feel is reasonable, but this doesn't seem to be based on any logic or reason. As you say, same engine. The service is no less or more work on either vehicle. I could perhaps imagine more work on the E53 if it included some kind of specific inspections on the 4WD transmission and drivetrain, but more on an E39? Eh!
£225 for an E90 oil change is daylight robbery. You could buy oil and filter for £60 odd, add an hours labour from most competent garages for £60, already saved £100.

Simply buy your oil from ECP and save ~£80 from that price straight away. Then you have to start negotiating and questioning their prices. My mum has got a service for her 325i in the next few days and they only want about £120 for brake fluid, oil filter, air filter and labour (she is providing oil herself).

Will grab you some this afternoon after I've washed it, it's ridiculously filthy at the moment
I think the washer bottle filters need cleaning as I seem to get a dried white residue on the paint everytime I use the washers. Even worse when the headlight ones activate Thanks for the pricing info all, I've rang the 3 dealers nearest to me (all Sytner dealerships) and the prices seem to vary quite a bit. Might give them all another call and see if they can match some of the pricing you guys have been getting

Buying your own oil just makes so much sense, I guess they just rely on the laziness and ignorance of the general public to not go out and buy their own?

The brakes in my car aren't fantastic, lack any real bite and pushing as hard as you can the pedal gets to a point where you can't push it anymore and the ABS isn't kicking in(not that it should really).
However!
When it's wet, or foggy(really foggy today) they are fantastic, really prominent bite, I feel confident that the automatic-ness won't push me forward when coming to a stop behind a car in front.
Discs and pads were new end of last year, I can't tell you what they are though unfortunately, but my mechanic friend did say he went with the better ones as i'd just warp cheap ones (these have warped slightly too.... sigh)

I buckled and ended up adding the adaptive suspension, for £500 it seemed like good value and the reviews i have read suggest its well worth it. Im also a sucker for gadgets

Something that's been niggling me for a while.
Climate on the E39 & E60 (assume others as well), why is there a hot and cold option, on the E39 it's a roller on the vent and on the E60 it's in the iDrive jobber, do you really need an option for a cold 19 degrees or a warm 19 degrees or am I missing something??
