Depends on the gun tbh, I'd youtube a few reviews. Most of the default guns are just fine once pimped out.

Edit - You can try them all out with all the attachments in the VR training area now anyway, so find out what works for you and concentrate on certing that up.

I haven't really decided what class I want to use most yet. In PS1 I used to play the infiltrator with mines or pistol, and get up close with people. It seems now you can only use bolt action sniper rifles?

Not logged in PS2 for quite a while, but can you not use the SMG's/Shotguns?

You have bolt action, semi-auto, scout rifles and SMGs available as an infiltrator.

I guess you have to buy them. What are scout rifles?

I believe they tend to be semi automatic rifles, they are mid way between an assault rifle and the full blown sniper rifles. They're stronger at mid range than either assault or sniper rifles, but have drawbacks at close range and long range compared to them.

Well i seem to be sticking to medic at the minute, swapping out for infiltrator if we have a fair few medics / are attacking and need some cover

Seem to be getting the hang of the sniping with the default NC weapon...my medic's rifle seems to be a tad inaccurate but ive used credits upto now to just upgrade medigun.

Might get a new scope for my infiltrator rifle, but unsure which to get...might have a play about in VR and see what takes my fancy :)

For this playstyle you want to pick up one of the two smgs available for your faction, equip a silencer on that and your pistol, cert into the anti-personal mines available under utility. Try the smgs in VR training before you buy though (1000 certs or 700 station cash).

The Gauss is an accurate gun but I'd say it would require a foregrip to feel comfortable bursting at med+ ranges. The alternative always would have been the GR-22 but essentially all you've ever been getting there is a bad version VS and particularly TR weapons. It has the RoF but has noticeably less accuracy than VS/TR weapons, then lacks the 10 extra rounds of the TR gun all whilst only doing as much damage as them.

Since the flinch mechanic being nerfed I'd say it's time for NC to play to their strengths and use the 200 bullet damage guns which suffered so badly prior to that nerf.

The Reaper DMR / AC-X11 are very good guns and with a compensator/advanced foregrip become extremely accurate and drop people very quickly at medium+ ranges. I'd avoid High Velocity Ammo as it definitely isn't worth it for CQB and the increased vertical recoil isn't worth it for bursting those medium+ range targets, you will get more shots on target without... I'd only ever use it for some kind of long range tap-firing setup.

If you're specialising in medic I'd consider getting an NS-11A. It's a beast of a medium range gun once you've certed it up. I tend to switch to the GR22 if I know it's going to be close quarters, but otherwise use the NS almost all the time. Compensator, foregrip, and soft point really do the job for any ADS firing.

For NC Medic guns all of the above responses are correct/valid but at the end of the day it's up to you to try them out in VR training and trial mode to see which suits your personal play style.

I personally use the GR22 with IR/NV scope and advanced laser sight. This is because as a medic I like to be at the front just behind the people who are charging in and with the aoe heal, res grenades and the medic gun I can try to keep things moving and do a lot of shooting/c4 too. Sometimes I might switch to a shotgun or smg if I know we're going to be CQC all of the time (a bio lab say), but most of the time I find the GR22 serves me well for short to medium combat.

Other people prefer to take more of a supporting role, hang back and make sure they stay alive to keep their squad up and firing from a distance. As the outfit I'm in has plenty of medics this isn't an issue for me, but it's a completely valid way to play the class. My brother for example uses the Gauss Rifle S because he prefers to fight from more of a distance and this gun allows him to run with a grenade launcher and res grenades.

Either way I don't subscribe to the idea that medic is just there to heal and only fight when absolutely needed, with assault rifles and c4 it brings a lot to the table in combat, yes a good heal or res nade can turn a battle but you need to kill people to get into a position to do that.

So basically it really depends on how you like to play and choosing the tools to adapt to the situation you're encountering the most in the battle you're fighting at any one time.

PS, maximum level medic tool (best certs I've spent ever), medic ability (aoe heal) and res nades are all extremely worth certing into if you want to play medic a lot.

How do you guys manage to play this game? All on Medium settings I get like 30FPS...

With an i5 750 @ 4.2GHz I get 45-50fps in large fights. It's very CPU limited once you get out in the thick of it, you can swap between all on low or all on high and you won't see a single FPS difference once you're stood in the middle of a zerg.

There is however a known performance issue with it right now since GU04. So give it a try after the next hot fix.

Fine - sits at vsync limit for most stuff - lowest I've seen is low 40's in biggest battles.

The game HATES AMD CPU's bear in mind and your i3 also isn't great.

But best remind him that they screwed up the FPS recently, and it's still not quite right yet.

Other than that... Amiga fan is dead on the money, you are gonna have to clock that i3.
