SimCity V (2013) - screens/artwork and information

I’ve stopped playing it now. I finally got my perfectly balanced city over the weekend, only for that ridiculous monster thing to appear and destroy my entire oil facility, the town hall and all its add ons, the High School AND University. Really cannot be bothered now. I wouldn’t have minded so much if the AI for it had been anything better then pathetically lazy, it just appeared, travelled diagonally in a straight line across the map and then disappeared. Unless they make the plots bigger and sort a lot of the AI issues out I wont be going back.

BUG!!!!

Decided to do a casino/high educated city. All was going well got to 250k population 10k/hour. All schools, 3 cog 4 hats.... City had been up for about 3 months. THEN -

Patched the game, went in and it said schools shut need education dept, clicked on city hall, said "Not approved" criteria "Build City Hall"..... F THIS GAME SERIOUSLY! Not playing anymore.....

6 hours later.... Up'd taxed to 20% made 2million. Demolished everything bar highways, mined the ground, built smelters followed by processors.... Now making 2mil a month soon to be a hell of a lot more.

How are people managing to keep up with utilities, i keep running out of power and having sewage problems.
i've only got 15,000 people and have 3x water treatment plants, 2x pumping stations and 4x solar farms so far. i'm making a mainly industrial and education city but i should still have anough power etc.
If i can get utilities sorted i need to fix polution and waste dump.

I'm tempted to get this, loved the original simcity back in the day as well as simcity 2000!

Are the bugs/server issues as bad as the media have made out? Is the game actually playable?? without having to wait 2 hours to get online?

Would it be better to wait a few months until its fixed?

I started playing a couple of days ago and haven't had any problems with the game so far, I've never had to wait to join a game or had any real bugs

The only problem I have is the disabled cheetah speed, It takes forever to get anything done as it is but is still well worth playing in my eyes

The fact that people are still asking whether they should or shouldn't purchase Simcity is proof that bad publicity is better than no publicity.

If you liked the older games steer clear, if you've never played them before then you may well end up liking this one.

I am getting really frustrated , lost several cities due to them rolling back to empty and now i have a city that i started yet again and after a few days play i get about 5 minutes and it constantly stops as it is "not processing properly" . When i get to play i am really enjoying the game but all the crashing out is driving me mad !

Is the traffic jams problem on this game normal or a bug?

even with a small population and highways I get massive traffic jams and in a recent review it was stating that it was a bug , but is it?

How is that proof? If so many people are having to ask whether a game is actually going to work when they buy it, that's not a good thing.

Not to mention the effect this bad publicity will have had on the 'casual' market (i.e. the people who buy The Sims) who would normally just buy the game without asking any questions first. I'd put money on a lot of sales being lost because people have seen on BBC News etc that the game isn't/wasn't working.

Easy solution….

1) Delete Solar wind farm
2) Check which direction the wind is blowing
3) Plop a Coal power plant so the wind does not blow the fumes over your city. I.e on the edge of the map blowing fumes out.
4) Add extension’s when you need them.

And that’s it, power shouldn’t be an issue. If your city starts to get polluted by that time you should a financial infrastructure to put down some schools. Get your education and tech up, build a nuclear power plant that will be sustainable!

Sim City was first released in 1989. One of the greatest, Sim City 2000, was released in 1994. The sort of people in their 20s that were playing back then are now in their 30s, maybe 'grown up', with families, children etc. They have probably forgotten about video games...

...and then, all of the sudden Sim City is in the news - front of the 'Technology' page on the BBC (most populate UK website?), people talking about it all over the place. That is good publicity for those people, as it puts a thought in mind that never would have been there before. Anyone who is genuinely interested in Sim City will buy it anyway as they will understand what the issues mean.

Casual gamers, to some extent, are not going to be picking this up days after launch, so much of what is wrong will be fixed. I'm not sure they will be too put off by hearing about problems.
