*** The Official Microsoft Surface Pro Thread ***

For me, the type cover makes perfect sense on the Pro.

I've decided to order the Touch Cover, plus a second MS Wedge Keyboard.

That way I get a blue cover + a completely separate keyboard for when I need to use Surface with a second monitor.

It would be nice if these covers prove to be forward compatible. I'd definitely buy another Surface when I come to replace the RT and it would save a hefty chunk of money.

I'd be more willing to invest in an additional type cover in the future for the odd time I need it if this proves to be the case.

After using my Surface for a few days, have to still say I'm really impressed!

Haven't really tried many games on it, Portal 2 seemed to run ok, but I didn't get a chance to hook up a mouse and keyboard.

One thing I've found really helpful is setting the maximum processor state to around 60% when on battery. I'm not too sure how much this helps the battery but the back of the device feels so much more cooler and it is definitely not as warm to touch when it was 100%!

I have mine now, only had it for a couple of hours but really pleased.

The pen is the biggest surprise at how useful it is for general navigation.

Surface Pro feels lighter then I thought it would.

Seems very quick, very nice improvement from the RT.

Ca you please test some games out on it, what ever you can throw at it, or demos off steam.

It's the biggest question for me, and no ones done it yet, other than torchlite 2

Can you clarify what so mes is?

I'm not really a PC gamer so may need a few pointers for what you need done, but can sort.

Can a CD Rom drive be connected to the surface pro ?

Have you installed any full programs on it ? if so how do they perform.

Any USB device will work, I think a CD/DVD drive would even work with the RT.

With programs its quick thanks to the SSD, Surface Pro is silent really pleased with the noise level.

Not installed much yet but everything is quick.

There are some issues with the high font scaling used (150%), Photoshop interface is tiny.

Chrome is a mess on a touch screen, hopefully now they have made the Chromebook Pixel the Windows version will get a few upgrades.

IE 10 > Chrome on this by a long long way.

Pro is only available in two countries and its a nearly $900 device.

400k of them is doing well.

The RT would benefit from the Atom, they would sell a ton more then.

RT needs bigger specs. It's so old internals compared to android or ipad top end models.
People look at numbers and the screen res, CPU, HDD are all lagging. It was also a shoddy release and wasn't in shops for months.
Atom is not the way to go for RT, it's being killed by the arm CPUs. There is a market for three tablets, but you be better off with an amd APU rather than atom.

400,000 for an expensive tablet (that nobody can seem to get a hold of) in such a short space of time is not bad at all.

An Atom (or other x86) Surface with 3G and TPM would be an awesome business class tablet PC, and I am sure they would sell a lot more. Whack Windows 8 Pro on there and Office and away you go.

Agreed, they need 3G/4g as well or at least an option.

How did they **** up such a big launch. It's not as if they didn't know customers only look at tech sheets. When optically bonded displays mean nothing against resolution.
HDD size issues, especially with how big the os is.
Not in shops.
The os is brilliant, there direction is brilliant.
Finding a decent tablet, well none exist. Even surface pro which is nice is compromised features like no 3G, small battery.

I think they got the hardware choices right for RT (besides the lack of 3G) because I can't see how having a faster processor would have made much of a difference to sales. Atom may make a RT type device pointless but it couldn't do that in time for their launch window.

I'm still amazed by the lack of certain apps at this stage, Microsoft should be throwing money at companies dragging their feet because the quality of apps really does have a massive impact on a tablet and we're still stuck with a number missing and the ones we do have not being as polished/functional as their iOS or Android alternatives.

Not sure how they got the hardware choices right for RT, maybe if it was priced as such, but it's not.
It's mediocre hardware with top end hardware price.

.

People look at spec sheets.
So why would normal people by the RT over android or IPad.
It has lower screen resolution, lower CPU, smaller usable HDD, pretty much every aspect is below the competition and yet want same price or similar.
Things like the case material, or optically bonded screen are not specs that people buy for.
On top of that faster CPU is needed, there was a fair few issues at launch, which they managed to patch. But a faster CPU, probably wouldn't of seen those lag spikes. Even now it still drops animations like its designed for. It's last gen specs at this gen prices, on top of that its a new platform with limited App Store, so can't even compete on loyalty or store. Combine that with rarity and not being seeing it in all the tech shops in town, and I'm not least bit surprised.
I'm also not surprised by Pro sales, yes it's more expensive, but it has no real competition, the specs are decent compared to the RT and has a real use.
