*** Official Planetside 2 Thread ***

.. and of course you can say this based upon your vast experiences of developing games and aren't just continuously raging at every little bug or change are you?

Sure I've had less fps since the patch, I think most people have, they're working on it. Is it nice? no, but I'm not about to start raging about it, it will be fixed. Go and (try to) play Sim City if you want to see a disaster zone worth raging over.

Oh great logic that, I guess none of us can debate politics since none of us are politicians or whatever else we not masters of Z or Y field.

Reddit has deleted that post by the way and the other copy of it in the Planetside 2 forums has been locked.

This double XP weekend is fragging awesome, making 1500-2000XP for vehicle kills. I had stuff to do during the weekend, so couldn't play as much as I wanted too, but I made 700 certs in one day then made 400 today, hoping to make a other 600 before they remove it later today.

But it be nice if they could extend it.

Is it best to pimp out the default guns or save to buy new guns?

Depends what weapons and faction you playing.

You will need to buy the second burster for the MAX that allows you to equip two at a time, proper AA defence. Nothing beats it. I also recommend buying a secondly weapon for whatever tank you have, if you like flying, you will need the Rocketpods, you also need a Zepher or Dalton for the LIB if you ever fly that.

I also recommend buying the SMG and one or two of the Shotguns, the SMG for the Infiltrator turns it into a useful player or if you prefer to snipe, then the Rams .50m (whatever equal) While the Shotguns, be it the Pump-Action or Auto is an awesome upgrade for all classies, personally I can't recommend the Uppercut (TR) more then enough.

Decided to try this today.

Have to say incredibly unimpressed, the game seems to revolve around "who has the most vehicles wins", the damage indicators are pointless because you die so quickly that there is next to no point knowing where you are being shot from, even if the indicators told you anything useful.

Also this is probably the least new player friendly game I have ever played, and I played EVE Online for years.

I just feel utterly useless, every battle seems like one massive cluster ****, missiles everywhere and no organisation what so ever. All of my weapons seem spectacularly ineffective compared to my enemies. One of the most aggravating things is I have NO way of dealing with the proliferation of vehicles besides the rocket launcher of the Heavy which can't hit anything unless its standing completely still, even then it does bugger all damage.

The game just seems....unrefined, played for about 4 hours in which time I had to look at the keybinds list several dozen times, tried all the classes, took and lost a few outposts and don't remember actually having fun at any point. The closest I got was playing as a Medic, at least with that you get to feel like you are making some sort of impact on the battlefield as a new player.

In conclusion, not for me.

The game is pretty much beta, it runs like crap, has a memory leak which is really noticeable when you switch accounts with tons of balance problems and bugs that just hurt your head, all the weapons look the same because they are the same with slight differences, it's like they they visisted http://pimpmygun.doctornoob.com/ and made one gun, then just copied and pasted different sections from it to copies to make more!

But the game is fun, I have 500 hours in it and it keeps bringing me back.

To really enjoy it, you need to find a Outfit to join, play with them, join their Teamspeak/Vent server then it becomes really good, lone-wolfing it will get you so far but to do anything, you need to work with others.

What faction did you play as?

Anyway, I just have to shake my head that I can run BF3/BFBC2 on Ultra at 5670x1200 and get decent FPS but I can't even keep a stable 30FPS in this game even on low settings at 1080p on one monitor, still can't believe they thought it was a good idea not to give it multi-core support. IF THERE is any game out there that needs Dual or Quad core support, it's THIS game.

One thing am really happy about the last patch is the passive cert gain for none-sub players, everytime I login, I get 1, 6 or 9 certs just for logging in! Which is really nice and something I missed from Beta.

I think they also ninja-fixed the turret bug for tanks in that small 32mb update today.

Rocketpods are on sale today.

er. WHAT? Seriously!? I honestly had no idea this was the case. What a ridiculous decision.

I play with the ultra textures because they look like utter crap otherwise. It is shocking how bad they look (as in console level bad) when on High.

It does make use of 4 cores, check your usage, but it's inefficient in it's use of them compared to other games. Being DX9 and using fizzx for core game physics has hampered the game somewhat.

I'm also beginning to wonder if it is also heavily dependant on internet bandwidth as I just swapped out my [email protected] for an i7-3820@5ghz and only gained around 5fps in big battles. That's a big increase in IPC of around 65% so should have had a much bigger impact on fps in the busy areas.

It's DX9 ? oh lord.. it really does get worse lol. DX10 actually made efficiency savings, so I have no idea why they chose to make a graphically intense game based on out of date tech? Bizarre.

I tried out the piston this morning, but I'm not really sure I like it. I was doing ok on my five minute stint, but I shot one guy that spawned at a sunderer 4 times in the back and he didn't die! He turned around and blatated me lol (game lag?)

Might have to give the SMG a go as I have 1000 certs to blow.

The Gauss is an accurate gun but I'd say it would require a foregrip to feel comfortable bursting at med+ ranges. The alternative always would have been the GR-22 but essentially all you've ever been getting there is a bad version VS and particularly TR weapons. It has the RoF but has noticeably less accuracy than VS/TR weapons, then lacks the 10 extra rounds of the TR gun all whilst only doing as much damage as them.

Since the flinch mechanic being nerfed I'd say it's time for NC to play to their strengths and use the 200 bullet damage guns which suffered so badly prior to that nerf.

I love the GD-22s. More all-round balanced than the Gauss Saw.

I can't get used to the piston either, I've seen people do amazing things with them with a 3.4x scope and slug ammo, but I can't hit the broad side of a tech plant with one :p

I was talking about medic guns with the Gauss Rifle vs the GR-22, but honestly if you look at the TTK at any given range for the selection of guns available to whatever class, be it 10m, 20m, 30m etc 90-95% of them are within 50-100ms of each other. Only a couple of weapons at very specific ranges like 50m have ~200ms differences.

So ultimately, you want to pick whatever gun reliably can land shots on target for whatever range you intend to be fighting at. IE the GR-22 takes 8 shots to kill at 50m ranges and the Reaper DMR 6 shots... you can hold LMB with the Reaper DMR and very reliably land those 6 shots every time, the same can't be said with the GR-22 which has a tendency to pull sharply to the right, giving it slightly uncontrollable horizontal recoil even with a foregrip. But at 30m ranges and under that isn't so much of an issue so the difference between picking either becomes pretty negligible (unless you want a hipfire hero setup, in which GR-22 ftw :D)

In your case of the GD-22S vs the Gauss SAW, the GD only takes 1 more bullet to kill at any given range, the TTK is also very close at the 30m and under ranges. So again it just comes down to if you feel you're having an easier time landing shots with it then that's the one for you, there is no point in fighting against a more aggressive horizontal recoil on another weapon because it has a 50ms better TTK. The GD-22S is definitely got the accuracy part down, I'd only consider the Gauss SAW over the GD-22S at the 50m+ (med-long range) just because the SAW features the HV ammo.

Also hotfix that just went live an hour or so ago seems to have fixed my fps completely, getting the same (if not a tiny bit more) than I was pre-GU04.

Thinking of getting an AA weapon for my Prowler.

I have tested both the Walker and the Ranger in the game and in VR and I find the Ranger deals the most damage to an ESF the fastest, while the Ranger is slower, but it is "flak" so when it hits the ESF, it scares them better, hard choice!

I haven't tested the new patch yet, hope it does improve my FPS.

Yes, latest fix fixed the framerate issues and any lag that existed. Great work from the devs.

I'm enjoying the EM6 now as well.

Just bought the EM6 last night whilst pretty darn tipsy.... I hope it doesn't turn out to be a lemon. Annoyingly it looks the same as the stock gun lol.

Just started playing this game again after only playing about 4 hours since release. Is there any ocuk outfits i could join, ideally with a teamspeak/mumble so i can get the most out of the game.

lol I installed this and was totally clueless.
followed some vehicles across a bridge to a fight and maybe I'm retarded because I wasn't sure who were on which side XD

might be because I'm slightly colour blind though.

I'll have another bash later , is it loads of fun once you get into it?
