Ya and when you factor in overclocking to say 1200/1700 or something similar it's likely to be double performance.
At those clocks it will be over 100% unless his 480 is clocked well, but those things are heat and power monsters.

Hmm, it seems the ghz edition is insanely expensive. What's special about it? Just overclocked out of the box? How much quicker would a standard 7970 be?

The HD 7900 Series is our focus throughout 2013. Anything you've read about the "8000 Series" was quite literally invented by the author to drive traffic to their website.
Aren't the GHZ models higher binned chips with the potential to overclock further than the normal 7970s? I know this isn't always the case but...
Quite possibly, but I don't think it's worth the high price when you can push the slider yourself.
Nah they're just booted out with 1.25V to rule out any possibility of them falling over at the clock speeds they're set to.

1ghz core clock (or more) plus faster memory speeds too.

No, not unless you're benchmarking heavily, and even then I probably still wouldn't bother.

It would literally take about 20 seconds to replicate what the GHz edition is doing with MSI Afterburner so I don't personally think it's worth anything.
