Who's got their copy of this then? Mine came yesterday and managed to grab an hour or so on it. The game itself is great from what I've played so far, but eurgh, the load times at the start are horrendous :/

Not got it yet, but considering picking it up on saturday, depending on what the general reviews say, only read one so far, and it made it out to be too much of a kids game and not much for adults, but will wait and see.

This was a major incentive to buy a Wii U, I am still really annoyed about the lack of co-op but my two boys should have a happy Easter holiday playing this - Sharing nicely! ;)

Going town later/tomorrow,will pick it up for sure.
Also read somewhere about an update to the console, coming in April,to improve loading times.

I have a question for those who have played it, does it play like a normal Lego game (like Lego Batman), but with the open world element thrown in? Or is it a completely different feel altogether?

It has similarities but is different enough it doesn't play like an extension of Lego LOTR/Batman etc.

The humour in it is as good, if not better than the other Lego games though. Constantly had me cracking a smile and laughing playing last night.

Unsure where you read that, it's one of those games with loads of adult stuff which my son has no idea why i am laughing.

then again having played Lego Batman 1 and 2, lotr and the star wars lego games i never felt they were for kids, only those who havent played them would feel like that.

Only played very briefly but watched my son play for a while.
First impressions are very positive; good graphics, nice smooth frame rate and some fine humour.
As Reemul mentioned, some of it the kids won't get but good for the adults.

Gameplay seems good with some really good use of the Wii U controller (video conversations with HQ) and some not so good (crime scanner seemed a bit gimicky to me).
Very much as advertised with a GTA in Legoland feel.

My only criticisms on first try (other than the lack of co-op , but then we knew about that) was the handling of the cars. My 4 year old son was struggling to control them and I took over to show him how to do it ended up struggling as well. Got used to it after a few mins but steering seems to range from massively over sensitive to completely under sensitive.
Oh and the loading times are a joke, but I guess that's a Wii U thing rather than a fault with the game.

Overall looks to be a good buy with plenty of longevity on the collectables as is usual with the lego games.

with me reading all the positive comments on this game i can see it being my next game purchase for the wii u.
did not buy a wii u title for months then two turn up at once :)
like others have said though bit gutted there is no coop.

An update is coming after the April one to increase software loading times

No, both updates are for the OS, the first one reduces the amount of time it takes for you to exit a game and return to the OS the 2nd updates is to reduce the time it takes for the apps to load e.g settings.

They aren't affecting load times within games at all, so Lego will still have horrendous load times when it loads a new area.

Hello, this is Satoru Iwata of Nintendo.

As we announced in the January Nintendo Direct, we plan to release two Wii U system updates. One in spring, and one in the summer.

Today, I would like to let you know the status of these two updates.

We are planning to release the spring system update in April, which will improve the time it takes to launch software, and the time it takes to return to the Wii U Menu.

We still have tests remaining, and it will take a little more time until we can release the update. But today, we have prepared a video so you can see how the loading time will change when returning to the Wii U Menu with the system update, so please take a look if you are interested.

In the future, we would like to share announcements about Nintendo Direct events here, so we appreciate your continued attention.

And lastly, like in other Announcement Communities, please understand that while we read every comment, we are not able to reply. Thank you.

The in game load times aren't bad, its the start up load that is and as per your quote the update will inprove software load time.

Reviews and user feedback seems to suggest fairly regular 30 second to 1 minute load times during the actual game itself, that is fairly bad IMO.

Get one and try it for yourself rather than posting others opinions, it's closer to 10-15 seconds on occasion and normally only if you're going into an interior enviroment which isn't that frequent.
