I don't think brightness is a problem at all. In daylight previous AMOLED screens have been easily readable anyway.

I usually turn brightness down quite low anyway, unless outside of course but then how often are you in direct sunlight in Manchester?! lol

AMOLED can already do proper colours, Perseus kernel for the S3/Note 2 is calibrated the same/better than the iPad 3/4.

The master sequence is calibrated to sRGB norms on a precision level equalling and even surpassing the iPad3/4 with help of professional equipment (Spectrophotometer) and professional hands. All credit goes to Slimer777 for his incredible job in doing this.

:).

I still prefer the saturated look to it though, which, I imagine, is why Samsung chose to calibrate the phones that way.

There's FA difference between 300 and 500 nits in direct sunlight (10,000–130,000 nits).

The GS4 screen looks fantastic!

Hmm, just had a look at gsmarena's review and it appears it is brighter by a decent amount.

Was going by this review that tp linked a day or so ago:

Brightness was only 282 cd/m 2 at 100%, probably just a faulty unit then.

There's always a huge variation to extend battery life, it all depends what your viewing. I think true 100% white is usually much less bright(?) (The HOS generally produces around 380-400nits too btw. Great colours and whites, crap matrix :p)
