*** The Official Samsung Galaxy S4 Thread ***

Was being serious mate, if Sammy were charging say £800 for a sim free phone, would you pay that price for it? I personally think that there should be a limit set.

Lol, ever heard of capitalism?

What you're suggesting is mental, in fact it's communism, it's very simple, they price it too high and people won't buy.

If this was water or air or something essential for life I'd see your point but its a phone. If you can't afford it then don't buy it, simple.

Let's not get political :p

The point I was trying to make was that the S4 is too expensive sim free at that price, I haven't checked the prices against the HTC One and the XZ; however, I agree with your comment if you can't afford it then don't buy it, but if someone wanted that phone sim free (and yes it is there choice), it's an expense to say the least measured against the other top phone costs.

Yes but so what? The point I was trying to make is your suggestion of some sort of cap is totally ridiculous and to be honest quite naive.

Why is it ridiculous  If there's no limit set on how much a company can sell it's phones for, they can just charge whatever they want which is unfair for those who want to buy it sim free (they may not be able to get credit) plus they're pricing their phones out of reach for joe public who would then just go and buy a competitors model (which may be cheaper), therefore Sammy lose out (albeit it may only be a few quid (and would Sammy care.....probably not).

That's precisely the point, they CAN charge whatever they want. You don't have some entitlement to buy a phone just because you want it.

If demand is low then they will lower the price accordingly.

I know I don't have an entitlement, but if there were 3 phones available, say HTC One, XZ and the GS4, the first 2 being priced at £500 and the latter £630, which one would you buy? I would have thought Sammy would want to price their phone close to their competitors?? This is my whole point, I know they CAN charge whatever they want, but is it unfair to overcharge?

Unfair to who? They are a business... they are meant to make money. They can charge whatever they like and its not unfair to anyone... Ferrari example was a good one for this. This is sounding like you can't afford it and are coming up with ridiculous suggestions.

Seems like I'm going to be leaving o2 once and for all. I've been with them about 10 years but their inflexibility over mobile tariffs (considering they're terrible) is just the final straw.

I think we need a list on the first post of all the best deals and such that are out there to make this as simple as possible for people.

But cut out the octa and quad core lark, keep it simples. Prices and tarrifs only.

EDIT:

Which on that note, is this the one of the best deals out there?

Yes so YOU choose to buy something else, why should THEY be FORCED to sell it to you at a price you can afford? Or are you suggesting all mfrs should be forced to sell their flagship at a certain price? Which incidentally would be illegal in this country, price fixing is a big deal.

You seem to be mixing up overpricing being bad for Samsung and a price cap, are you suggesting there should be some sort of government policy to save samsung from themselves? If they want to sell it for £1000 they can, just nobody would buy it so the price would come down?

To be honest the debate in this thread about early pricing being high is daft anyway.. pre order price gouging on the hottest new phone which definitely will go out of stock on day one.

Who would have guessed that would happen!?

Prices will stabilize closer to release date and will probably end up being far more reasonable unless Samsung have adopted a policy to charge a premium rate for their devices.

We shall see in around a months time.

I agree ..when the S2 then S3 were announced price was around £520 mark and
which was fairly standard for a high end smart phone . The prices at the moment are over inflated . The more I read more I think I will hold off for now and let it all settle down as stoosh has stated

I'm in no rush S3 does all I need for now :)

Unlocked-mobiles have it for around £530. Never used them before but tempted to pre-order from them!

I've never used them before but have pre-ordered from them. If I get the phone on time, I'll be happy. If I get an email in late April saying they've had a stock issue I'll be less happy. If that happens and somewhere else is doing it cheaper, I'll actually cancel and go with the cheaper option.
