damn youd think they would release an 8 core by then - they're reporting the 4930k and 4960x are still 6 cores, the 3930k has been out for ages. its time to move up to 8 cores intel!

What I find the most interesting here is that the 3820 is being replaced by a 'K' series chip, fully unlocked multiplier on everything IB-E by the looks of it :)

I Promised my self the absolute top line of IB-E so 4960X it is

It's especially funny that the Samsung Galaxy S4 is rumored to have an 8 core version in certain countries.

There is no competition at all for the 3930k as it is, it's an annoying situation.

ARM though.

No where near as powerful per core.

Of course but by the time Intel entertain consumer grade CPU's having 8 cores it will be standard in popular phones so the list of excuses (e.g. yields) is getting less plausible.

They'd entertain it if there was a reason, but performance wise, what can you buy that challenges the 3930k in the desktop/consumer space?

The kicker is the 39XX are Octo cores, but only 6 activated. (Probably failed 8 cores, but I wouldn't be surprised if you got the odd few which would actually work)

This is exactly what caught my eye, i wouldn't even bother upgrading if i could run my ram at its native divider(2133)

It should certainly give any considering Haswell or a drop back onto Z77 something to consider, enthusiast grade chip, probably 4C8T, quad channel, decent upgrade options, ~£230, fully unlocked...sounds appealing to me :)

And when you consider the IHS WILL be soldered (wouldn't expect anything less from an 'E' chip) it will likely hit clocks a 3770K could only dream of...under normal cooling obviously ;)

Very very excited for IB-E :D

I finally get my hands on a SB-E hexcore that will go over 5.1 and IB-E arrives lol.

What ever happened to the 8 core SB-E intel were supposed to be launching.

Last I saw that was rumored for Q2 kaap, though with a Q3 date on ivy I'm a little doubtful it will materialize.

Dammit, I'm going to buy the components for my new build this June (some of the specs n my sig below), now the question is whether to wait for the Ivy-E range, and whether to wait for the next socket type if 2011 isn't supported.

I don't know, maybe I'll just buy the components shown in my signature - I guess if I keep waiting for the next thing then I'll never get anything bought let alone built.

I am starting to think if they ever do launch, they will be poor overclockers. I think intel may wait now until IB-E is with us and then launch an eight core. At least an IB-E version will not use so much power/produce so much heat.
