[Insert stars]Bioshock Infinite[/Insert Stars]

Following on from my last post, I did break out the original again, and in my opinion, it wipes the floor with Infinite.

Back to it it though, I did stick with the game and I am a good chunk of the way through it, sporting 5 or 6 plasmids (or whatever this game calls them), a bunch of clothing upgrades (a nice touch), and the carbine - also just got the hand cannon.

The introduction of your buddy has kind of taken away a fair chunk of skill required I feel - I now have a seemingly endless supply of coins, ammo, health and salts thanks to her! Even on hard her ability to throw me these items from miles away and often through walls, has meant that in battles I'm hardly getting a feeling that I'm fighting for my life - even when I do die the game deducts a few coins and she revives me!

The game looks ok, the settings are brighter and more open, so this will always distract from any ill feelings of doom experienced within Bioshock, but the graphics (i.e textures) on the PS3 are very dated in some places.

The sound is good, immersive enough, so no worries there.

The enemy AI... laughable, seems they either have super sniper xray vision and can hit you when you can't see them through the distance fog, or they just have the run and whack approach - there's very little variation in this; hell the only one that may have been a challenge (the crow) can simply be outsmarted by pacing back n forth.

As Tom84 says above, and Dannyb01y, this game (to me) is feelings pretty 'meh' and over hyped :(

I'll finish this, but it's not a keeper, and certainly not a replay - by comparison I've been through Bioshock 4 times and this recent rekindle with be my 5th.

One of the most disappointing aspects of the game for me is Elizabeth, she was billed as unlike any other computer game sidekick before and that during the story you would build up a relationship with her..... erm no!! She's like every other computer game sidekick - annoying!! She constantly gets in the way and constantly repeats herself, and on that note this has to be the buggiest game I've played in years!! So many glitches :(

I reckon I'm nearing the end now and I probably will give it a second play through eventually just to try and make sense of the story and see if it's deeper than what it appears to be but yeah this hasn't even come close to living up to the hype :(

Like with all of the Bioshocks I purposely don't read anything up until they are released and I've played them. The only thing I saw with Infinite was the 5 minute E3 (I'm sure it was E3) trailer from a year or so ago - In which lt looks like that scene was cut. Apart from that, I had no idea what to expect :)

Tom - What glitches did you have? The only one I encountered was the offline Save Checkpoint - Xbox reverted back to 2005 for some reason  and therefore not my "Resume Game" latest checkpoint.

One of the things I remember seeing in one of the gameplay videos from last year was Elizabeth calling out the location/direction of enemies ("Booker, on your left!"), but like most of the stuff from those videos it seems they cut it out of the final game.

I think they did a good job with Elizabeth overall, I did find her too fidgety at times though, especially noticeable at times when she's talking to you yet wandering off in a completely different direction. One thing I did like was how she'd often stay ahead of you and go where you were (usually) intending to go, as opposed to tagging behind like many other tag-alongs do in games.

Aye on that note check the OP and the videos labeled 10 minute Gameplay Trailer & 15 minute E3 Demo - now when's that game coming out?

Yeah I watched that the other week, was quite disappointed that so much was removed. The section in the store with Elizabeth picking things up and showing Booker, and then the interaction between NPCs.

Not to say I'm disappointed with the game at all, but it's a shame they clearly made these things only to cut them later.

Yeah it's not a bad game by any means it's just not as good as what they showed 2 years ago, If Bioshock 1 was an 9/10 then I'd give this an 8/10 with the totally meh Bioshock 2 only getting a 7/10 :)

Wow, it's like you guys got a totally different game than the PC version if this thread is anything to go by. I absolutely loved it and thought all the 9/10 reviews were spot on.

The people who don't like it, did you just run through it like you were playing COD?

I agree, the response for the game in this thread is totally different to the response in the pc thread. I think some people that don't understand what's happening in the story may have rushed through it, the voxophones play a big part in explaining where the vigors, handymen, songbird etc. all come from.

Unless they have actually cut chunks from the console version, I cannot see how the two versions could be different, if anything you have nicer textures; I suspect the core game is the same though.

As for the pace of play, I'm playing it slowly and exploring off the beaten track - much the same way I did with Bioshock, and the countless other first person games I have ever played - on console or PC. Yet this game still feels disjointed, my character still unexplained (who do I owe, and why?), and frankly I don't trust any review other than player ones...

Right now, Bioshock is providing me a more enjoyable play, so Infinite will be shelved for a while, until I feel a need to return to it, for now it is very much a 6/10 game to me.

I played through on the PC and didn't have any of the issues here. Elizabeth wasn't glitchy, annoying or anything like that. She also called out things like 'Booker, patriot on your right!' and so on quite a few times. The AI were pretty good as well, always tried to flank me when I was in covers and so on.

Also I thought everything was pretty well explained. But then again maybe you haven't finished it yet.

Easily GOTY for me.

Everything is explained in the voxophones and at the end.

Well in the PC section i'd say the player reviews match the mag reviews. That's why it's a bit of a shock to see it's a different story here.

April or not, I can't see anything beating it, would be nice to be wrong though as that game will be something special.

I'm quite fascinated at the difference between the two threads, having only been following the PC one I assumed that pretty much everyone (with a few very small exceptions) loved it, so it was interesting to take a look at this thread.

I'm wondering if its simply not as good on consoles for whatever reason, though the reviews would seem to suggest this is not the case. Or maybe people just want something different from a console game (and I won't make the usual insulting COD comments).

Would be good to get a view from anyone who has tried both versions.

Personally if GTAV and The Last of Us don't top this they'll be even bigger let downs. As it is though I rate Tomb Raider as the best game I've played so far this year (out of the whole 2 of them)

From the sounds of it, the PC version must be a different game... maybe limitations on the 360s disc size meant they had to make cuts, and the PS3 version simply followed suit... maybe they had different teams working on the two sides.

I glanced briefly at the PC thread before beating a hasty retreat (glad I gave up PC gaming tbh) and it seems like this game is being praised as the new messiah or something :D Maybe the likes of me are being overly picky and critical of this game as it cost us more, and I speak from my own personal situation here, my disposable income is short so I expect the best bang for my buck (hence still waiting for Crysis 3 to be cheaper). If not this, then maybe we're were just expecting something to top Bioshock... though I know we're being slated in the other thread for daring to hark back to that game.

It is what it is though, a game that some will be blown away with, others entertained, and others left deflated - personally I straddle the last two camps at the moment.

I'm pretty sure it's the same game.

I think it's just a case of far more people visit the PC gaming section. Just noticed the Tomb Raider thread in PC games has almost 7 times the posts as well. I'm guessing the people who liked the game picked a more popular thread to talk about it.

The Last of Us does look very interesting from a quick google. I might be blowing the dust off my PS3 for that one.

Just completed it

I see it has one of those endings that you could be discussing the permutations of for hours, just a shame from a gameplay pov I wasn't blown away enough to have my mind blown by it all. That being said I expect I'll start my second play through tomorrow :p

About an hour away from the end and just want it to end now.

Don't think it's a bad game by any means but video games just don't seem to grab me like they used to :/
