Slightly off topic, but as much as I've enjoyed taking the mick out of Surrey Hills types, after riding there recently with some locals, there are some pretty awesome loops and I'm definitely going back more regularly now.

I've ridden Swinners a couple of times, they're still turning it into a trail centre at the moment though aren't they? Peaslake is ok too if you know where you're going.

Yeah fo' shizzle, it won't be til mid May though as I'm cummuting to Henley for a few weeks from various friends/hotels once I start my new job, then moving into my new flat before going on hols early May. Hectic few weeks!

Supercow, nukeproof mega, tyres need to be reasonable for some distance do a few loops on it, but also for doing downhill cause that is most fun.

Ah yes, remember the bike now - yea if you're using it for DH then it makes sense.
Admittedly, I'd recommend giving the Hans Dampfs a go, they cope as well but roll better.

If your spending under £100 there all much the same, just get a draper one or something similar, need to find what range you want first, you might need more than one.

http://www.widgit.com.au/products/widgit-for-3-ring-crankset this allows use of a 28t/30t ring, any idea if there's anything available in the UK to buy which is similar?
Most chainrings i;ve seen only go down to 32t which is what i already have on my 1x9 setup.
Reason for the question is would like it slightly easier for uphills, rarely in the hardest gear when off road so the sacrifice wouldn't be to bad. I'm also moving to 10speed to help, question on this too, mech cage length, presuming medium or short would be fine?

SRAM crank or any that can take a spiderless chainring plus an mrp bling ring.

You can also get an extralite 30t or an Andersen machine 30t ring, these work on a 104 BCD crank but require a bit of filing to the spider, it's easy I've used both on 2 pairs cranks.

Go short cage with 1x9/10 but it'd be wise to check with other people in case your frame has mega chain growth.

Anyone know of any good trails in the Cheshire/North Wales area?

I only really have Delamere close to me, and I'd like some variety :D.

Hi'

I've found this when i googled Extralite which shows the filling down:
http://thelazyrando.wordpress.com/2012/10/29/30t-andersens-machine-chainring/
The guy seems to like it.
Had a quick google on the MRP Bling ring and it seems most run it with sram x0 cranks, presume these don't need filling?
Chain Guide only go's down 32t so will sort a new one of them out to.
Can't beat new bits!

You don't have to use an x0 crank, there are x7, x9 and others which can run a spiderless chainring. No you don't need to do any modification. Standard cranks with a spider have to be filed slightly the chain will foul the chainring tabs due to the smaller diameter of the chainring.

Yep there's not much you can use with a <32t chainring at the moment, MRP also do a micro guide which goes down to 28t. In the past I've used a blackspire stinger and/or an n-gear jumpstop (both work well together) at the moment I use a blackspire innerguide; this is like a thin bashpate bolted to the granny tabs, this combined with my bashguard sandwiches the chainring, I've not dropped a chain since running this setup on my Blur.

Er, yes :D

North wales: Llandegla, Coed y Brenin, Betws y Coed, Penmachno, Antur Stiniog, plus miles and miles of natural trails, it's an amazing place to be close to.

How do you guys keep your chains in tip top condition? Especially after a super muddy, gritty ride.

I do this after every ride at the moment since our weather is crap. Give it a scrub with a brush or if you've got a bit more time, do this then run it through with a chain cleaner (I've got a finish line one) using degreaser, then regrease each link with the lube of your choice (I use finish line wet lube) and wipe off any excess.

In my opinion wet lube is pretty essential in our country but it obviously attracts tonnes of dirt, I've got into the habit of cleaning my chain after most rides and it seems to be running smoothly all the time. It's a good idea to give your cassette/jockey wheels/chainring a quick scrub too, this only takes a couple of minutes.
