Epic exec equates PS4 to “a really perfect gaming PC”

For a console, It looks pretty good, But compared to gaming PCs, Its still lacking and it will always be behind. My 7970 from Feb last year will out perform the PS4. Thats over a year old and the PS4 is yet to be released. We have titan, 680s, SLI/Xfire, trifire etc.

This is the world of consoles and each generation we have un-knowledgeable saying the same thing. "this year consoles will own PCs"

It will never happen, EVER.

Im not sure why people buy into the hype put out each generation for consoles. they pick on pointless things, Do most gamers on PCs run 32bit ops. No, of course not. Do most gamers only have 4gb or RAM. No of course not. But these are the bits and bats throw out in the media to create hype. to get the console kiddies believing they are buying into a top end gaming machine.

Yet people who know about tech and hardware, They laugh at such things. It needs to be looked at for what it is, A cheap gaming machine for those who can't afford top end gaming, This is CONSOLE.

A next gen system that was implemented with WoW how many years ago?

Yes but I am talking in regards to a console not a pc the ps4 is a next gen console, we haven't been able to do the play while downloading thing with a console yet so as far as that's concerned it is next gen.

guild wars was the first game to use the play as you download feature ? I think it got added to wow some years after launch

I don't know who did it first, just that WoW was the first that I saw it with. Either way, the idea is hardly "next gen".

To me next gen would be better graphics, smarter AI, more interactive environments. Not background downloads and a facebook app.

I dint like when people like this talk/answer question about something they don't know about.

a lot of people are asking "How it compare to PC gaming?" inplictly meaning on a Gaming PC, though the answer the give is based on non-gaming PC's.. Why do we need to know that?

Its like saying 'weve invented something to topple a tree quickly, its 10x quicker than using a hand saw' Why would you use a hand saw for chopping a tree, you'd use a chainsaw..

Same situation, you wouldn't use a £300 pc from the 'purple people' to play crysis on max settings, you'd use a custom built PC..

I know what I've just said but for the price the PS4 looks interesting...

Laughable.

However good the PS4 is, it will not be as good as current top end gaming rigs and by the time it is launched my mid-endish type rig (for now) will still be as good as the PS4 if not better.

Id call that marketing bull. Been there done that. If this is a selling point of a console. I feel for its customers.

We are not debating whether or not the ps4 is a next gen console, it obviously is. But not because it can download while playing.

The debate is, is it the perfect gaming pc? Clearly, it is not.

I read the ps4 is only aiming for 30fps max and from the early videos I see like kill zone there there is no textures and no aa.

Really doesn't even come close to what a midrange gaming rig can do.

I find the comments in that article very odd - but I've seen some odd comments altogether when it comes to the PS4, people in the industry feel they need to push it (it is their livelihood after all) but you can tell from the careful wording they aren't really quite so happy - some of those features are nice progress from the PS3 and XBOX360 but comparing them to the PC platform makes you look a bit silly).

He has a point about the 64 v 32 thing as even if your aiming for high end PCs you can't altogether do away with being compatible with 32bit on a PC game these days whereas if your focusing on a PS4 game purely you can - that said I've not really seen any games that suffer from not being able to be purely 64bit so far tho we are slowly getting there - 1-2 games have required 64bit for the server side but thats not really so much of an issue.

but the PS4 will let you play the game when a certain amount of it has been downloaded.
That's next gen

We already see that on PC. It may not be a major thing but Blizzard has been using that tech for ages now. Even Trion with their game RIFT does that. Im sure other games are offering the same thing or something similar.

I don't understand why we go through this every gen. Just apply logic to it: PCs are always going to be faster than consoles at launch because you spend more money on them. How much do we all spend on our rigs? Usually between £500-£1000 for hardcore people on a budget. It goes into the thousands for extreme enthusiasts. A case alone can cost £200 quite easily. Consoles have to sell for less than £500 and form factor restricts TDP and cooling solutions which restricts grunt. But even non-technical people should understand that a £1000 computer is faster than a £500 one.

I read this earlier and laughed quite hard. What a tard, I take it he's the only one that built a gaming pc and installed a 32 bit os. No wonder he thinks such rubbish.

I can't really see why someone who is into games would knock a PS4. I've been using my PC and PS3 side by side for years and I do so because I like games. My current PC is un-upgraded for 3 years (apart from a cheap SSD) They are each a catalyst to get me what I want. If someone is making a £400 next-gen box then why would I knock it before I've even seen it. Also, all we should know by now that mid-life and end of life console games look twice as good as release games. I've ummd and arred about buying a new graphics card for 2+ years but I know I'll be getting a PS4.:D

I'm just here for the games:cool:

It kinda annoys me that I have to spend almost the price of another rig just to play exclusives. Yeah games like MGS5 are attractive to me as a gamer, but I would rather spend less money than more TBQFH! In the old days consoles were pick-up-and-play and stress-free but nowadays any benefits over PCs have disappeared.

oh dear, so does this mean it was unnecessary to buy 16gb of ram because I can only use 3gb?

[actually it was, because Ive only ever managed to use 7.5gb of it :P ]

consoles do have their place though, I mean where would the games industry be without them?

it would be pointless though

A good laugh at the expense of people claiming consoles can compete with gaming PC's would be a very good use.
Also they rely on the PC market so it's a good advertisement for their platform when PC's costing the same are shown to perform better and have better functionality.

Maybe Sony should produce a subscription based PC program so people with no desire for a console can play games like Gran Turismo and MGS.
