NPower total idiots

Depending on tarrif/company. Your two prices, are no split down the middle for each month. Some companies will make you use expensive units in winter, drastically increasing what you pay and fooling comparison sites as they don't take it into account.

So where is says 687kw at Xp then yp after that.
Some go 3/4 of that allowance in winter. When you'll actually use fuel.

But does that actually matter? as the Xp is the high amount and Yp cheaper, so you will use that 687Kw no matter how it is split - I use 4600Kw / year and am not that high a user.

Can I request a new smart meter and get the government/electiricty company to pay for its installation? I'm sure the meter we've got is probably not as accurate as it could be.

I've always had the impression that NPower are the worst of a bad bunch.

Over the years I have only ever used EDF and Southern, whichever is cheaper at renew time. No problems with either of them.

Hopefully they've screwed everyone's up because apparently we've used ~£400 of electric in the past quarter despite no one being in the house during the day. Our heating is gas and we have a gas cooker. We're pretty sure we're doing nothing different to last quarter when it was considerably less.

WTF could use that much? :/

You need to read your meter and submit a reading, bro. See what happens then.

I quickly read the meter last night and the estimate is probably about about ~£40 more than it should be.

Think I need to investigate more, even £360 seems high!

I have heard good things about the smaller energy companies which are coming on the scene now - one I was thinking about going with was GoodEnergy - does anyone here use them as a provided and can provide any feedback?

Cheers!

Southern Electric one game me an estimated bill of £680, turns out the metre reading given to them when we moved out was lower than when we moved in (from NEVER using the gas in the summer).

Took me an hour on the phone to explain to them that I'll pay a tenner as a token sum for a quarters worth of being connected to a gas supply (which was a large phone bill as their customer service line wasn't free).

All gas companies are thieves until they can prove otherwise... (especially good old Phoenix gas in NI who's units of gas quietly disappeared if you didn't use them quick enough...)

Avoid comparison sites they are rigged, especially for utilities.

In what way are they rigged in regards to utilities.

I decided to put my usage into uswitch a month or so ago to see if there was a cheaper option over pre payment (we were getting mucked about by one of the places that have paypoint as one of the people there kept pulling out the electric key before the credit had been fully written to it and the second time we had a load of grief getting it sorted as SSE said that it couldn't happen), and the top result wasn't one of the top energy suppliers so I can't see that as being rigged if you mean that their rigged so that the top energy suppliers come out on top.

In several ways, they are not detailed enough, some companies like Npower have extremely complicated tarrifs that can not be averaged out to a month, you have to look at which months you pay the higher tarrif (ie it's winter, so costs way more than an average calculates). Another thing a lot of comparison sites do is include money off if up you stay with the company for x-months. Why would I want to pay more, to get money off a future bill.

Comparison sites are Bs for utilities and do not match when I do a spreadsheet using detailed data.

im going through hell with npower, its a joke, sent me a "final reminder" of 360quid for what should be around 200 (6 months usage, from last MAY) also got a letter charging me 7quid ontop due to me not being trackable since we left the old apartment.

but the letter got sent to my new address which i gave them, and i've been in contact at least 3 times a month since oct due to this mess up.

They put my account on hold and i'll be damned if im paying this any time soon.

Also, took 3 hours to get through to them yesterday. Fun times.

I use British Gas and each month I submit the meter Reading and they calculate the bill a few days later and email the cost.

EDF I just have a standing order and every couple of months I submit a reading.

Why people just don't give a metre reading each month and pay what you owe for the month is beyond me....

appartanly now I have used the entire cycle of the gas meter in 5 weeks.

thats not bad only about £82,000 for 5 weeks gas.

I had a similar thing a while back with NPower because the guy they sent could barely speak english and obviously couldn't read numbers off a meter either. :/

Took a good few weeks to get it sorted.

Because you have to pay twice as much in winter.
Monthly direct debit, over pay in summer, under pay in winter. I still do submit monthly readings and often take readings far more than that.

Hmmm, I would prefer to just give them what I owe them every month after submitting a metre reading. Are's is roughly £70 in the summer and £130 in the winter.

Avoid silly over the top estimates so they can earn more interest holding your money.
