1.5 Million in the bank

LOL at all the speculation here.

Basically Spie took a £5million dividend (payment to himself as a director/owner) in 2008. This payment doesn't mean anything regarding the success of the business etc. Just means Spie decided to give himself a big bonus from the company he ran.

The company is growing year on year long term, there was a small drop in 2008 due to the initial economy shrink, but due to hard work and commitment from the staff and management it back in growth again.

OcUK does not, and has never owned the property is in located at, the property has always been rented - that is for all 3 locations to date.

Also Spie bought his Ferrari in 2007 and paid for it then, but the 599 is a case of you buy it, pay for it, and wait 6-12 months for it to be built, so he got the keys in 2008. He moved to Switzerland in 2007 too, also prior to the dividend payment. If I'm not mistaken the Swiss authorities will only allow you to become a full time resident in their country if you have at around £1m in your personal bank account.

Don't be under an illusion that OcUK struggled as a business in 2008 - that is simply not the case. Spie just decided to reap the seeds of his brilliant hard work over the past 10 years or so. He had taken dividends previously too, but that was just the biggest single payment he gave himself.

Spie worked hard for what he got, and deserved it too.

I still keep in regular contact and have been over and visited him in Switzerland, and we still regularly see each other when he visits the UK. I like force feeding him jagerbombs.

I can't imagine any company letting their money sit around doing nothing. Surely you reinvest it to keep up with market changes.

Maybe you should have a word with Apple's CFO then

I reckon they've got enough sitting in the bank to fund a project to reanimate Steve Jobs.

;) I still have nightmares about your fashion sense the last time I saw you :p

All those zeros make me think my employer are doing quite well and my jobs very secure.

I'm assuming you've seen it? the closest and clearest I've ever seen any Ferrari was one of those clips with Martin Brundle on the F1 show. What a factory! Especially all that red and alloy. Damn.

Isn't it mandatory once you buy one you've to go on a course with Ferrari as they teach you how to drive them.

I guess that explains why the country always looks a fantastic place to live.

Yes, and lots of cash of that magnitude being sat in a company is a bad thing.

There have been some interesting articles regarding apples cash reserves. In technology it's not quite seen as as bad because if they have issues (see Nokia) at least they have the money to fund it.

It's also helped their share price, although the fact they're now paying dividends is supposed to signal a new view from traders perspective.

Apart from being a generally beautiful country with easy access to most of Europe, without actually being part of the EU...

Nope. You know many like? a car at half a million or so, I'm sure you're going to take it to public streets. Didn't some people used to bend the Mercedes badges for laughs or steal them?
