Help me stop the obscenities.

Ah yes but the CX430 would be fine as it is a quality unit with plenty of amps on the +12v rail. The system would never pull 430W. HiS are probably playing it safe, assuming that it would be a 500W generic PSU :p

That said, getting a 500W would be no bad thing really as it gives you some headroom and it allows for the possibility of upgrading the 7850 to something a bit beefier in the distant future.

As for re-using the drives from the old PC, wouldn't it be an idea to sell it as a complete system along with the Vista licence to claw back some of the money? Should be able to get £120 for it if you sell it in the right place (after figuring out what the issue is that causes it to shut down of course - probably over-heating) :)

Yeah I'd put my money on over-heating, the best thing to do is to install something like HW-Monitor and see how hot things get.

I seem to have a nice tan after taking the side panel off this afternoon. ;)

I'll give HW-Monitor a go, nothing ventured nothing gained.

Might be worth getting a fire extinguisher installed in his bedroom until we get the new build. ;)

Have you told him it'd be best to stop playing it until he gets a new PC?

I can't see the attraction to that game, can't stand it :D

I like using it to pass the time :D

If he's been playing it on that PC in this state for this long, I doubt a little while longer will hurt the PC notably more hehe.

He's bashing away on it at the moment, so it's still in one bit.

He's been giving me the evil "have you ordered the stuff yet" look today.

Just been reading the post about the Corsair PSU's, should I go with something else. I couldn't put up with two whining things in the same room at the same time. ;) He's a good lad really. :)

Can you please stop mentioning people in purple shirts!! ;)

the purple shirted people.....o god them......

Thanks Hyburnate. Think I might go with a more meatier PSU, as you never know what he will want to do next.

Over my budget, but never mind. Sometimes you have to spend that bit extra to buy quality. ;)

Missed out on a couple of the weekly offers, but that's life.

Just a thought ....

Why not go for the CeleronG530 as the cpu (saves £54) and up the board to an Asus P8Z77 -V LX (£28 more).

Gives your lad something to save for - i2500k/i3570k - if he wants more performance and the board is the most recent.

(and the £25 saved could mean an improvement to a 7870 gpu?)
