its what i see, i didn't look at any stats :) i simply cycle from central to north london and i see a lot more women jumping red lights and riding dangerously all over the road every single day..

you two make it out like ive just said "no males jump red lights" i simply said i see a lot of women doing it when they are hardly in control of the bike.. :) and imo it is risky for them to jump red light when you cant keep your from wheel pointing in the right direction.

how can i be slower here;

first place - http://app.strava.com/activities/5927215#641480878

me - http://app.strava.com/activities/47900592#837287432

his avg 32mph - mine 28..

now that makes sense until you look at the actual graph, and he never exceeded 30 miles/ph.. and he is over all slower than i am pretty much all the way down.. how the heck does strava calculate it?

he's in 1st im in 3rd(edd stance)

Hi,

Just wondering if anyone is doing the Wiggle New Forest sportive this weekend, I'm looking forward to hopefully my first double digit (weather) ride!

Its a really flat route so although it will be the furthest I have ridden I'm hoping to get close to the gold time >15.5 mph. I'm not too sure it will be great training for the Etape du tour but I guess its still miles in the legs and it looks a really good place to ride :)

According to The Times, all the cycling deaths last year were males. I was pretty convinced the majority of cycling deaths in London were females too, so I think it must be a bit of press bias only making a big deal about the female deaths.

I've been knocked off twice in all the years I've been riding and they were both while following the 'correct' procedure of keeping left while negotiating roundabouts. I don't make that mistake any more.

Is this what were supposed to do on roundabout? I've always just taken the lane I'd take whilst driving.

This. Depending on size of roundabout I take centre of lane in the lane of the exit I wan't to be in the same as if I was in a car or riding a motorcycle.

Cycling around the outside is surely going to make cars think you're taking the next exit?

My thoughts exactly.

I think strictly speaking you are supposed to crawl all the way around the edge. I don't - I take the relevant lane and work from there. If a roundabout were so terrifying that I don't feel comfortable doing that, I'd get off and walk round it on the pavement.

this is what i do... easier for drivers i think :o

The problem with both of mine is I was going round A-road/motorway junction roundabouts (continuing on the A-road, taking the next exit) and was struck by a car coming off the slip road that was between my entrance and exit. I generally do take a defensive line on roundabouts but on these particular ones, tried to leave room for cars taking exits further round to pass on my right. After the latest one (a good few years ago now) I realised that the line I was taking was putting me directly in the blind spot of slow/stationary cars waiting to come off the slip road.

Yeah, guess so. I'm quite shocked the gap is as large as it is actually, but more shocking is the number of people killed. Almost 2 a week is ridiculous. :(

Ok guys need some advice.

Accidently just purchased some Planet X AL30s Wheels (Shimano/Black) only called them up as they were displaying out of stock and to see when stock was likely expecting 2-3 weeks. The sales guy then told me they were actually in stock but had tubes and tyres on them but said he would throw in the tubes and tyres for no extra cost, so couldnt really turn them down!

They are being delivered tomorrow, so need to work out how big of a job and what tools I will need to fit my rear cassette or is it worth just getting my LBS to fit it?

Accidentally purchased. :D

You will need a chain whip and the cassette lockring tool to get the cassette off your old wheel, and the cassette lockring tool to fit it your new wheel.

You can get these tools very cheap and they're worth having as it's an easy job. Depending on what your LBS charges to fit the cassette, if you don't save money this time you definitely will next time.

Ha, I was expecting 2-3 weeks time when I could plan to have the money saved to purchase them!

Are there any good deals about that you know of for chain whips and cassette lock ring tools? It even might be worth me buying a cycle tool kit rather than keep buying individual tools as and when i need them.

Would I need anything to lube where the casssette locks onto the rear wheel?

Conti GP 4000S still the tyres of choice for eveyone?
