Accelera Tyres

A serious response.

Accelera tyres are not going to be the best. they will do the job and meet minimum requirements but ultimately will not offer any benefits to you other than being cheaper.

you have a nice car relentless, put some decent rubber on it.

what size in particular are you looking at and budget per corner?

the wheels are £400 so about £80ish a corner 215/40/18's I think is the right size?

Thanks

80 quid a corner is a very low budget for 18 inch tyres. If that's your max tyre budget then either get smaller wheels or consider how prudent spending 400 quid on wheels is if you then have to reduce tyre budget.

You know what gets me, I've got "Minerva's F105's" on my RX8, for road use, perfectly acceptable and I couldn't give a monkey's toss what others think... when I replace them, then I'll be getting better tyres because the wet performance isn't what I want in a RWD car, however, for now and in the dry, they grip perfectly fine and I'll just use them for track when I upgrade to Goodyears. When it rains, I just don't boot it, but that's what I'd still do with top tyres on.

Try them, see what you think and if they work **** everyone else mate, what does it matter as long as you're happy with them. Just be wary that in the wet this is when cheap tyres lose there browny points, but I'll tell ya what, in the dry in normal conditions, I'd love to see the "track" experts on motors do a pepsi challenge on them rofl.

EDIT: Just make sure that if buying you shop around as you can get some deals on top makes now i.e. 205/40/18 Good Year Asymmetric 2 £102 inc VAT... now that's a steal.

In the dry in normal conditions? Have you forgotten where we live?

IZ BOUGHTS AN UZED E46 MFREEZ FULLYZ AWAREZ OF DA RUNIN COSTS BUT I IZ BIT SHORTZ DIZ MONTHS AND NEEDZ TYREZ. SHOPZ SAY\Z PUTS DEEZ ACELERZ 0N DEM MFREEZ. OMG DA GRIPZ. SO BEETERZ THAN ANY OTHER TYREZ AND ALL 4 80 GREENZ A CORNERZ

even when I went from LingLongs to Toyo Proxes in the Saab, bog all difference in the dry because on a road you can't take the tyres to the limit in safety that much anyway and if you are pushing to that limit then you're driving like a **** anyway... wet was another story!

So in a country where the roads are wet almost 50% of the time, would it not be prudent to fit tyres that don't have ridiculously bad stopping distances on wet roads

I mean for goodness sake, you live in Wales!

ok, so if I up my budget to £800 for the lot is that going to get me some decent mid range tyres?

The budget is low because I was after second hand fn2 wheels but I can wait another month if its the difference between crap and decent tyres

Hankook Ventus V12 Evo K110 - £135

Doesn't seem to be a cheap size, the Acceleras were a good £30 per corner cheaper than anything else so I have to question if they are midrange at all.

Don't forget to add the £20 a corner a garage will want to fit them.

Yeah, agreed, forgot about that... apologies... think my local in Buckley does £16 per tyre... however, I now have somewhere else that does them and balances mine for £5 per wheel ;) Doesn't help OP though lol.

Out of that lot, I'd probably say the Falkens are the best VFM really if he needs under £100 per corner... I've had three sets of these and a great little tyre, do everything very well. Review by 185 people

I did have a nice little Albanian place that would fit for a fiver a corner but it was burnt down, probably by the manager of the local kwik fit. Quite a few places get funny about you wanting to fit tyres you've bought off the internet and I've found it better to just go through Blackcircles.

When I used to buy through Blackcircles the garage I used would prefer you to buy them from the internet and give them £10 a corner.

I'm guessing they will make more from you in that way, especially if you pay in cash...

Falken's are awful

Hankook's are slightly better

Continental's are excellent

A friend had some on his A4. Decent enough grip levels but 2 of them were severely unbalanced (Bought the tyres new). Even after being balanced 3 times at 2 different places they would still vibrate through the car.

It was so bad we thought the wheel must be buckled, but then we put 2 Bridgestones on and they were smooth, no vibrations at all.

Just shows those saying you wouldn't tell the difference in normal driving, you would with QC issues like this!

My bad it must be 225, it will be whatever the standard OEM FN2 fitment is, sorry :o

Thanks for the link rjkoneill, I cant remember my details so I'll have a proper look when I get home, hopefully they are local!
