North Korea threatens US with a pre-emptive nuclear strike.

Itll be hilarious if it gets shot down. This is just a lot of bluff and bluster. You dont announce a war before it happens.

Well of course it's bluff and buster. The people in power in NK aren't idiots and they aren't suicidal, they're trying to get their nuclear deterrent taken seriously so they may regain some power but it's not working. They've painted themselves into a corner as backing down on their rhetoric is going to put them in a worse position than they started in.

Just curious - is Ban Ki-moon being sucked in by the rhetoric? I'm not saying he's a doom monger, but he doesn't seem as reassured as some people on here and elsewhere.

Ban Ki-moon does seem like the weak wishy washy link internationally speaking, he should shut the **** up basically

I think one thing that makes the media so crazy on this issue is that hardly any of them have local correspondents that actually speak the language. So everything seems extra foreign.

I think Ban Ki-moon is just using it as another excuse to sit down and have a natter. Every issue in the world, he offers to talk about, his office is always open etc.

I just picture him, Obama and Kim sat with a pot of tea and some scones.

Well im 75% convinced it is, only thing that worries me is whether theres a power struggle going on. If for instance theres a military faction that is making a play against a reforming faction, an overt military gesture might just start something that nobody can stop. The NKs dont seem to be big on half measures.

There is a reasonable chance they will launch the rocket tomorrow. They've done the exact same launch before;

Going to read your blog now iv seen afew topics which interest me on it :)

And if they launch tomorrow China will be shutting the border and pulling any support they had left, russia will hopefully condemn it and south korea and america will be going for it. I can't see this going well for them if they do anything

It occurs to me that NK could launch something far more destructive than a low yield nuke were they minded to do so!

What I have in mind would be well within their capability.

Just read all your north korea blogs i found it very interesting its a very odd country id love to visit personally!

Go for it! I head a hell of a time, it can be done on a reasonable budget as well. I did 4 days in NK plus a week either side in China (Beijing/Shenyang/Dandong/Shanghai) for about £2000 all in (including things like Visas, tips and souvenirs).

Anyone seen this documentary on N Korea? Its an amazing insight into the nature of the country and ultimately a very sad watch...a guy managed to get into N Korea after few months of trying and he's taken on a mad tour which he secretly films! Surprised he didnt get arrested at some of the things he did haha!

Tearoom lady :(

Caveat, that documentary is extremely sensationalist.

The tearoom lady thing is garbage, numerous tour groups hit that service station everyday. Also they way they claim they "bribed" their way in is also untrue, they just went on a regular tour that you can do.
