North Korea threatens US with a pre-emptive nuclear strike.

I reckon the today's ban on Chinese tourists/businessmen entering NK might be having an impact. That combined with them closing Kaesong the other day has wiped out almost all of their hard currency income.

Me personally, I'm going to finish work. Go home, Crack open a beer, don my tinfoil hat and flameproof cloak, sit on the balcony while in said attire, drink beer while in said attire and watch the world end.

I mean it was supposed to end last year. So I guess now it could happen at any time.

Yes, it was truly dreadful and I think is one of the only films I have seen in the cinema that I considered leaving halfway through.

Still 100x better than Die Hard 5 though, oooooooh Bruce Willis vs NK in DH6 maybe that would be awesome lol.

Was chatting to a friend in SK earlier btw: "Yeah I've seen some of the "news" as I get my mail from the UK Yahoo site, talk about lol, its all complete bull [deleted], nobody here is worried, just another day next door to a barking dog :)"

For those interested in a rundown of the North Korean military forces, there is a very comprehensive guide here:

As you can see, North Korea has very large numbers of (mostly) obsolete weaponry. I didn't realise just how much shoulder-mounted anti-air rocketry they have though. That would play havoc with any helicopter operations over the mainland or occupied areas of South Korea. The artillery also has obvious potential for massive destruction in the first hours of the war (as has been widely publicised / discussed already).

The Airforce and Navy are something of a joke compared to modern equivalents though. Only their 35 MiG 29s (4th gen fighters) would be a threat to US / Korean air forces, and the US would seek to clear them up quickly using their F22s (against which the MiG 29s would be virtually helpless).

Wow..interesting graphic. Really shows how backwards they are :o The artillery thing is vastly overhyped :o

...This cartoon also appeared in a Chinese comic [edit - sorry, it was posted to Weibo, not in a mainstream Chinese publication]

The three "nations" being pee'd on are the US, South Korea and Japan (gotta love the topless muscle-bound Obama caricature :D). The elderly man to the side represents China, and he is saying "stupid child, you are asking for death".

Publication in Chinese media is quite tightly controlled, and it's unusual to see something that deviates too far from official Chinese policy. So, while it's just a comic, it's another piece of evidence that China is hardening its approach to North Korea.

... on a more serious note, there's a very good chance that we will see a missile launch from North Korea today (or in the next couple of days at the latest). The "musudan" missiles have been fuelled, and since they run on a liquid propellant they have a very limited 'shelf life' before they must be fired or have their fuel removed.

The launchpads have also been "moved into firing position" within the last few hours. There is increasing speculation that North Korea will fire multiple missiles (including short-range SCUD type missiles).

As an offensive / defensive military unit, yes.

But there is little doubt that the North Koreans could cause thousands, likely tens of thousands, of civilian deaths if they chose to fire into South Korea's northernmost cities (including Seoul, though not all the artillery can reach that far). The artillery units would not last long before they were destroyed or run out of ammunition, but in the hours before this happens they have the potential to cause massive loss of life.

Of course the "turn Seoul into a sea of fire" rubbish is just that.

Russia siding, or at least not against the US as well from this comment:

""There is no disagreement with the United States over North Korea," Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said at a meeting with US Secretary of State John Kerry in London on Wednesday."

They are not going to have a friend in the world soon.
