Morning clockers,

New guy to the forums,

I haven't had a pc since the days of the original OP Flashpoint which I had to run in the lowest of the low settings so I am a little behind the times, been on consoles ever since. Time to invest tho as I can't use a thumbstick for FPS games. I have a limited budget so want to get my best "bang for buck". I've always had ATI or AMD in my laptops and they have yet to fail me so I'm staying away from the intels for a couple of years. Nothing wrong wih them but the i5 3570k is out of my price bracket as it the 670 GTX. Next build will be with these or there current models.

My aim is to O/C these parts to a reasonabke standard and run games at high on 1080p. Not going to run dual monitors and won't be gaming all day and all night.

Please feel free to suggest different parts, etc etc

CPU - AMD fx 6300
GPU - 2GB 7850
MOBO - ASrock 970 Extreme4
COOLER - CM Evo 212
RAM - COrsair Vengence 8gb 1600MHz
PSU - Corsair CX600
CASE - Bitfenix Outlaw/Zalman Z11+
SDD - 64gb Vertex 4 (boot drive)
HDD - 1TB Barracuda
O/S - Windows 7 pro 64 (already own on a usb so no need for a Dvd drive)
Mouse - Logitech G400
Keybd - Logitech K120
Screen - ACER 21.5" VE series (purchased after build)

Prices are fluctuating between £590 - £620 at the moment (not inc O/S and screen). Anything thing you guys with experience could or would change.

I want it to last around 2-3 years, run ARMA 3 and BF4, AC well easily on High.

Think thats it, my main is t run the 6300 at around 4.2/4.4 Ghz, and then O/C the 7850 to run and higher clock speeds which I will determin at the time.

I have never built a pc before but have taken loads apart. So this will be fun

Sorry for any spelling mistakes I tpying using my iPad and I have sausage fingers.

The 6300 is slightly better in games and with games becoming increasingly multithreaded, it is possible for it to last longer than the dual core i3. The only problem with the FX AMD processors is that they might struggle with poorly threaded games, it should still be playable if you turn a few settings down but completely depends on the game.

If you can partner the 6300 with a good motherboard and the 7850 you mentioned in the original post it should be a great system:) I would personally recommend a Asus motherboard if you are going AMD though, but I guess it's just personal preference;)

Interesting, so you chaps think an i3 over an O/C 6300. Any reason for this or is it personal choice? When it comes to tech specs etc I am at a loss, if you could elaborate on your choice I'd be very great-full.

I wouldn't mind an intel 1155 socket but thought the i3 was quite old tech, and I can't overlock it as with the 6300? Is overclocking for games that I play necessary then?

Stock coolers are noisy and the case was there, but obviously didn't add it when pasting the HTML.

Intel stock coolers don't make a peep, at least on 1155.

I'd take an FX6300 over an i3 anyway.

i3 isn't old tech, the FX6300 launched after the Ivybridge i3's, IPC wise it's still a fair chunk off, but being able to overclock it, it's the better choice.

I think it could be worth a shot. If you can get a 990chipset board in there, you'd have an upgrade route to Steamroller if it's supported on the AM3+ socket. You'll get the 6300 to 4.5 easy.

AMD 6300 £105
HSF £25
AM3 MB £90

Total £220

But you can pick up a retail i5 3570K (£160) and Gigabyte Z77 (£68) for a total of £228. Why would you bother with the AMD?

Where can you get an i5-3570k for that price? Everywhere I have looked seems to be closer to £180.

Although I think the i5 is the much better choice your pricing seems a little unfair, you would still buy an aftermarket cooler for the i5 choice and the i5 is more expensive than that.

Well I just looked and I can see it for £160

I think the rational with the HSF is that the FX-6300 needs an aftermarket one to overclock and beat the i3-3220, wheras the i5-3570K can beat an overclocked FX-6300 using its stock HSF.

That's the 3570, not the 3570K.

I understand the rational but not buying an aftermarket for an i5 3570K would be a waste. You are correct though.

Thats the i5 3570 not the k version, still better than the 6300 but can't be overclocked (i think)
