Ok basically I need to do what the thread title says, but I'm not in any rush to.

If it was your money, what brand would you spend it on?

I was thinking the non pro samsung 840's as read speed is the only importance.

Is there a good reason for getting the 840 pro's instead? Reliability perhaps? It's a decent chunk of money for 4, so reliability might be of more concern compared with buying just 1 of them?

Is there anything else on the horizon I should be lookign at instead?

If you dont nead blazing fast writes then save £100+ per drive for the non pro, that is what i am doing! In a review i read, the 840's should still last at least 7 years even with a lot of use, by which time they will be hugely obsolete anyway.

I am guessing (but correct me if i am wrong) that unless i am using it in a server and/or going to be writing huge amounts of info to it every day then i need not worry about the longevity of the drive?

In all honesty i dont do any video/picture encoding, only music/digital audio workstation stuff. Other than that i just use my PC for internet and gaming and thats it.

Same as me! They'll be going in a DAW and holding many sample libraries, and if I'm correct, splitting them up over multiple drives will allow me to stream more samples simultaneously than using one or two larger drives.

Yeh i would imagine they are perfect for DAW's. In fact, in this situation, read performance would be the most important thing i assume.
