*breaking news* Boston Marathon explosions

To be fair to groen is strangely right on this one (Obama being as pwoerful as people think). It does annoy me when describe the President as the United States as the 'most powerful man on Earth', he can't do anything without congress agreeing.

If he did, it would be a dictatorship, not a presidency.

Just look at the recent case of gun control, clearly Obama wants to be bring in much tougher laws so why hasn't he if he's so powerful? The answer, he can't and doesn't have the powers to do anything but bring up the topic and hope to persuade the rest of Washington to voter for it.

It's call the Constitution.

Just noticed another victim has been named, saw her picture, then realised that one of the women lying on the floor with one leg in one of the graphic pictures I saw earlier is her. Wow, that's made me feel absolutely awful. RIP. :(

Obama is nothing more than a PR man he has a lot less power than most people realize.

I wouldn't say evil to the core but he is certainly not a nice person, well he might pretend to be one, but in my opinion he is not a nice person. Obama reminds me of david blaine or darren brown. He reads what he is told and says what he needs to manipulate people.

Interesting, because to me, he comes across as a genuine, clever, articulate, and compassionate individual. He is someone who i would be genuinely very proud of, if he were to run the country i lived in.

As a person, i think he is the best president America has had for a very long time.

He can't put in a law by himself just because he wants to. There are procedures to follow. Same goes for the UK, this isn't North Korea.

There's more to it than the 2nd Amendment. Obama was trying to introduce tighter gun controls which is certainly not a violation of the Constitution.

His ideas were great but the republican dominated congress refused to accept them. He wanted to ban assault rifles like those used in Sandyhook. They said no. He wanted smaller clip sizes for magazines. They said no. He wanted tighter background checks on people buying guns. They reluctantly agreed to debate this. No decision as of yet as far as I know.

Also, the 2nd Amendment was drawn up during a period when people wanted protection from armed militia. Fast forward to today and it's essentially a redundant document as there are no armed milita but instead a federal government with nukes, drones, strike fighters etc etc. The peoples only need for guns today is to protect them from each other.

The 2nd Amendment should be scrapped in my opinion. Fat chance of that ever happening though as the American people have a masochistic attachment to it. I guess they are happy living with the statistic of over 30,000 gun deaths per year.

A different point of view - Chomsky makes some very valid points.

Karen Rand survived, but was in surgery for her serious injuries through Monday night. Cheryl Rand Engelhardt, Karen Rand's sister-in-law, wrote on Facebook that Krystle's parents at first believed that Karen was their daughter, and that she had survived the attack, because Karen was carrying Krystle's ID. Krystle's family was finally ushered into Karen's hospital room after one of her leg surgeries by hospital staff, only to discover their daughter's friend instead of Krystle. Krystle was then declared missing, and the family found out on Tuesday she was among the dead.

From Yahoo News, that's awful. :(

And that comment alone is enough to silence hurfdurfs ramblings about showing pictures of violence to the world. That poor women has died / was dead and pictures of her corpse have been paraded across the media & internet without regard for her privacy.

Depends how you look at it, if I take your SA rifle and let you buy an excellent potato gun instead, how am I not infringing your 2nd Amd right?
Or as they call it now, giving you a reasonable concession.

Correctly rejecting stupid, unenforceable, badly worded and ineffective nonsense - some of the morons making these laws don't even realise that you can reload a magazine
Basically - You can get re-elected by doing nothing, you just have to look tough while doing it.
Also, the 2nd Amendment was drawn up during a period when people wanted protection from armed militia.
Are you reading that correctly?
The peoples only need for guns today is to protect them from each other.
A use ratified by the Supreme Court back in 2008.

When any of these new laws apply to criminals, then we will have a topic for debate.

Cue the conspiracy theories, the mystery man on the roof...

Yeah unlikely the bomber would skyline himself like that. Just read the Reuters article about pressure cookers being suspected as the containers, but haven't heard of any real leads being followed.
