Surely not. Looks targeted to me. Not just to a US politician but to a particular politician or even a particular class of politician.

Its looking less and less Al-Quaeda from where I'm standing, the lack of any claim from any group so far is telling. If it was A-Q they'd be crowing like a cockeral by now it'd be a massive propaganda coup, a successful attack on US soil, but instead, silence.

Thats because AL-Q, no longer has the same structure as before, though somewhat still figures a way to invade the entirety of North Africa and still be a problem elsewhere.

This is what occurs when you try dealing with a problem with violence, it just spreads, the only reason western terrorists have reduced in attacks is simply because of our liberalisation as a society, making it less likely to even occur to someone.

Not true however for the rather authoritarian zealots in the middle east today.
 
I, personally don't think the US will ever find out who did this, unless some group owns up to it.

However I do believe Al-Qaeda will own up to it soon, even if they didn't do it...

you would have though if it was a group they would already have claimed it was them

Is the lack of any claim for the bombings a possible indication that more are to come (minimise interference till they carry out more?), or that the perps are trying to flee the country/on the run?

Depends, they might be keeping silent because they have something planned for London this weekend.

I personally think it's a small group (couple of people) within the US, and not an international problem.

Interesting to find out if the device was on a timer or was remotely detonated, doesn't look like anyone was with the bomb to set it off.

But they normally use guns - who knows, doesn't seem to fit the standard Islamic terrorist style.

Closer to the Brixton bombings in style (Neo-nazi) which was on the 17th April - but who knows, I was actually about 100 foot away from that when it went off & had just walked past the place of the bomb during a visit to Family in London - but that one was also a nail bomb.

Sixty-five people were injured, 17 of them seriously - two victims had legs amputated
 
Pressure cookers might have a timer built in, but would be interesting to find out the trigger.

What time did the US Supreme court make it's decision to release the IRA Tapes?

You realise Boston is a very busy city right? Also generally bins aren't high priority for electronic monitoring.

Identifying a suspect by looking at "people putting stuff in bins" over a period of probably several hours during prep for a marathon (meaning a very busy time) is hardly going to give anything useful.

Even if they do see someone "suspicious" on CCTV, assuming the bin in question is even covered and even then from a useful angle (which it may well not be), the chance of actually IDing someone with the footage is essentially zero. I mean if I was planning on putting an explosive in a public place I would a, do my best to look normal and b, do it during a busy period. You can't assume people capable of carrying out something like this didn't think before they did it.

Your not telling me this day in age there is no cctv footage of the person dropping these bombs off, cctv is EVERYWHERE!

you guys are used to your cctv here in the UK (espec London) - in the states; there isn't much cctv actually quite rare.

also in response to the pressure cookers - just read an article where they busted an American for trying to use devices like this in the past (meaning - not just middle eastern people know about this technique).

sounds like the pressure cooker was used along with items to inflict these injuries inside a black bag or backpack.

hope they can catch whomever is responsible
