Got raped by Steam

Pretty disgraceful response tbh - Steam is becoming a victim of its own success. Customer support always has been extremely poor and it is only getting worse it would seem.

Couldn't agree more, really hope they pull their finger out!

Had such a high opinion of Valve/Steam before all this. Really hope it wasn't misplaced...

I know the situation is looking bleak but I really do hope we come to a proper conclusion on this. It's bad enough this was done in the first place, let alone the poor effort on their part to actually explain what exactly went wrong.

Good luck Overslop, hopefully if enough noise is made you'll be heard.

Absolutely disgraceful on steams part, have you had any response so far from the other email addresses you tried - gabe and someone else i think it was?

After having read the steam support (or lack of) thread that 5ub posted i think overslop should try and get some exposure in online magazines/articles etc. Valve need shaming into action over this and not be allowed to just let it be swept under the carpet.

Surely Valve have a way of tracking stolen items?! Then why not just tell you there and then which items were contested? The whole thing seems bizzare to me, and very unfair to you Overslop (and indeed, anyone else affected by their mindless blanket ban without so much as a, 'Hang about, what if he's innocent?')

This is like the system of monitoring on world of warcraft.

You can be banned for buying gold, however there is no way they can prove YOU bought the gold in the first place!

If I really hated someone on wow all I had to do was buy say £30 of gold from some site and put their character details in, they send them the gold in the post and BAM banned!

The proof seems to be simply their say so... you have no way to defend yourself and it seem the same happens here.

I was just reading that thread on steam and clicked page 4 and low and behold it has now gone. Poor show steam. I despise any compnay that refuse to acknowledge issues and do not elaborate or explain a users individual case. Copy and paste responses are not acceptable and do not help resolve or educate users on what they have done.

Hope you get your issue sorted but the way steam are behaving it seems unlikely.

Edit: So it seems to be moved then, hopefully they come to their senses although it shouldn't take so much effort to just get and explanation rather than the BS we can not help further.

I'd personally start trying to get some media attention to this. The lack of communication coming out of Valve is truly astonishing.

Give 5UB's plan some time to see if it pans out. then start firing out emails to magazines online and paper.

good luck, i have bought games from you before and don't want to see you get taken out by the likes of steam customer (lack of) service

I remember playing SWG years ago - all items had a unique identifier, if for some reason it disappeared from your inventory as was likely to happen frequently, a GM would easily be able to find the item(s), verify its location (ensure it hadn't been traded) and return the item. This also prevented scamming to a certain degree if you were lucky enough to SS prior to the scam - anyway, my point is;

Does Steam not have such a function, albeit hidden from the user, that could be employed to ascertain the path items have taken. Item History if you will?

Best of luck getting it sorted, I'd hate to lose even my limited collection of games/items over something that wasn't entirely my own fault.

I'm sure they do have that ability - it's standard practice after all.

The issue here is not that they don't know what has happened with the item(s) but that they are not communicating properly with the OP and have potentially unfairly banned him from further trading.

I thought you coudl track an items path on the tf2 backpack site?
Surely steam/valve can do the same?

Pretty harsh tbh and as above I also think you should get in touch with some press and see if some pressure can get valves finger outta their ****
