Hi all,

A friend wants a new PC for general use and playing StarCraft II.

Can you recommend a low price/value package of components that would meet his criteria please ?

Not planning on overclocking.

Does the listed spec not need a graphics card to run StarCraft II at high FPS ?

Also, I think my mate would prefer an intel CPU.

Would an i3 paired to a 7750 do the job ?

Why are you against overclocking?

The a10 will handle it fine.

That would be a bit better though around £100 more.

I am not against overclocking, in fact I have overclocked a few machines in my time. This is for a friend who is not technically minded so best keep it stock in order to avoid any potential issues requiring tweaking.

Budget is around £400 - £500

Over budget a bit but way way more gaming power!

The card is great and that is my personal favourite cooler for the GPU. Since you are not overclocking, no need to a Z77 chipset or a K processor and the stock cooler will be perfectly fine.

While Trinity is good for the price, specifically for Starcraft II I would advise against it. The game pretty much benefit from no more than two cores, and two cores on the A10 CPU is simply far too slow, even with overclocking.

For similar budget, it would probably be better to go for a Pentium G2020 (£40-45) or G2120 (£60) and a 2nd hand 5770/5850 or a new 7750/7770. This would perform better all round for SCII than the A10-5800K together with its integrated 7660D.

haha just what i was thinking

Thanks mate. The AMD CPU is now coming out more than intel.

Do you know which would perform better ?

Messed my specs up sorry, fixed now. AMD comes in at £500 and Intel is £50 over.

Just had another think and scout around.

This is the most balanced build..
