Evil Dead

I watched Evil Dead last night (original) and it really hasn't aged well. I know its 30 years old but it was horrible to watch, and not in a good way. :D

Evil Dead 2 on the other hand (watched straight after) is still fantastic. I think this remake of the first film is going to be brilliant and now I've watched the original again I'm glad it has been remade/reimagined, it deserves it. The trailer looks superb and the film is getting good reviews since it opened in the US this weekend. Also hit No.1 too I think.
 
Decided to watch the original Evil dead last night and as usual, i found it absolutely hilarious in some parts. Probably watch the 2nd later tonight but i really did enjoy the original one...the special effects were hilarious especially near the end of the movie.

Still planning to go and watch this when it comes out in the cinema, just need to convince the missus and if she wont come then ill get a couple of my mates to tag along.
 
Went to a screening of Evil Dead last week, and I was a bit disappointed tbh.

It just felt far too "clean" and thought it lacked the sheer craziness, and humour, of the originals...from what I can remember of them anyway.

Personally I didn't think it was that good, so I'll give it a 5 (maybe even a 4) out of 10.

Hopefully you guys might enjoy it a bit more than I did though :)
 
Just got in from seeing it. Quite enjoyed it, didn't love it like I'd hoped, but the violence is certainly there and the special effects work is great. It doesn't really feel like the original's, it's definitely it's own "Evil Dead" movie, but it's also not so different from the original to be derogatory.

I think I'll see it again before I make my mind up - I've got the desire to watch it again as soon as possible, so that's a sure-fire sign I enjoyed it.

Watched it earlier and its a decent film in its own right.

But.....the fact its a remake/re-imagining the comparisons of course are there and truth be told it doesn't stand up to the original, even though the special effects and acting are infinitely better. Pretty gruesome too and brilliantly done, how its not CGI I will never know! There are some tense scenes but there was nothing like the terror and lunacy of the original, unless you count the parts copied direct from the original.

I wish now they had tried to do more with the story, although that might come in a second film I guess, but it felt a bit empty, probably because I know the story from the original. Whilst there are differences, there aren't enough for me. Overall I enjoyed it, but wasn't as good as I'd hoped. Interestingly, I went with someone who has never seen the original, and he loved it.

Oh and stay till the end of the credits :p
 
Don't regret having seen it, but came away pretty empty, and thus disappointed.

The bathroom scene blew me away with its intensity, though. Really thought things were about to get VERY good, but it failed to shift gear well enough.
 
Loved it, surpassed expectations, a few little niggles that could have been changed but it was excellent, 8/10 for me.

First feature length movie for the director as well, job well done.
 
it's a shame we didn't find out more about the book of the dead. the film was pretty good. but the cinema experience was spoiled by a group of young girls giggling throughout.
