*** The official HD 7990 review and discussion thread ***

it all started because of the TITAN

I think you'll find it all started with 7970... instead of being released at the same price as the previous generations top card price (GTX 580 @ £380-430), it was stacked on top - £490-£560

having already shown that people will over pay for a card that a few months later is available for £330, nvidia jumped right on board with 690 and then Titan :D :D

if anything, GTX 780 is still going to be cheaper than a 7970 was on launch day :D

Yes you are right

That's why they are going to go out and buy two HD 7970s and clock the nuts off them and still have change for some decent waterblocks.

And....

This.

7990 hasn't lived up to the hype that this forum was giving. I expected better but sadly it isn't.

AMD missing an opportunity to miss an opportunity again.

..this

Lol, here we go again, 7950 faster than a 580, priced less/alongside.

7970 considerably faster than a 580 available@launch at RRP=£439, gauged out on or shortly after release.

7970 launch price listing ranging from £439-£564 depending on who decided to gauge the most(very easy to find if you want actual release pricing):

680 faster stock for stock with the 7970, priced slightly less/same than most non price gauged 7970's:

7970 pricing collapsed, 680 increased/decreased over time, the rest is history.

Titan was not to blame, it was both AMD/Nvidia's fault(probably an under the table handshake imho), but only one of them can get away with high pricing, hence the 7990 won't sell until it's much cheaper imo.

Custom 7990's were available for £700.

£150 premium for getting the 'late to the party version'?

I don't think so AMD.

I was still conflicted about getting another 7970 or a 7990 but until that driver comes out there's really no point.

Some very enlightening articles surfacing today.

I like the way some forum members blame nVidia for the 7990s pricing :D.

If nVidia price something highly they're terrible people whereas if AMD price something highly it's nvidia's fault. You really couldn't make it up. Some of the fanboyism is actually extremely funny to read. Carry on! :D

Wouldn't you just be better off getting a pair of 7970's instead of this? I know it's a vanity card but still...
What about frame time variance and dropped frames though? I would have thought the 7990 would be much better in this respect and be "smoother" overall (apologies if some of the reviews cover this but I have not read them all)

I don't think I will buy this card but if this is what the BF4 trailer was running on it looked really smooth to me.

driver for the smoothness is June/July time.

Just because a card has two GPUs on it will not make it smoother.

The GTX 690 is very smooth because it uses a hardware fix to do this in addition to the two GPUs.

Hopefully the upcoming driver will sort the frametime problems on the HD 7990.

All Keplar cards have frame metering technology which helps to eliminate stutter etc. The 690 has hardware based frame metering technology unlike other keplar cards.

Also question for Rilot or another mod...."Why do you have to delete all the posts all the time, Is it really necessary as some people may want to read them like myself...?"

Why delete so much.....let people have there freedom of speech ffs.

Just getting back on track.....

Anyone going to pick one up when available?

Not at release price. I was tempted if they were around the £600 mark but £800+ removes my interest completely especially as they are meant to give the same performance as 7950 crossfire which can be had for as little as £400. No idea how AMD think this is worth twice the price.

I like to have an AMD based system as well as a Nvidia one, but for what I want this card does not come up to scratch.

I would want to use two cards for Quadfire (dual GPU cards make it easy to get 4 GPUs in a box) but the performance, drivers, poor overclocking and frametime problems make this a non starter.

I would not mind the £860 price if the other problems were sorted.

I will carry on with my HD 5970s and HD 7970s for now.

7500 posts of arguing with different people. :D

Nothing wrong with a good debate :D. Don't mention VRAM or [H] in this forum if you want it to stay on topic. Then again posts arguing about graphics cards are probably better than off topic gif posts ;) :D :p. I reckon about 1000 of mine are about FIFA and the rest are largely in here. All of which has nowte to do with the 7990 though....

Doubt many will at current price point but you never know.

I wonder what the people prefer. Rusty's arguments with forum user (insert name here) or my various gifs or strange posting habits. :D

It'll be interesting to see how many OCUK sell. I'd really like to know the figures after a month.

I found a way of seeing what sort of share of the market a card has, but it is only a very rough guide.

Go onto 3dmark11 and do a search for all results for whichever cards you are interested.

For example there are 229354 GTX 680 results and 188544 HD 7970 results.

This will not give the number of cards sold but will give a rough idea of market share.
