Nintendo 3rd ranked gaming company.. look at their sales figures!

Everyone bought Wii Play for the remote as well, the game was ****.

Just as most people bought the second Wii Sports as it was basically the only Remote Plus Game initially.

The PS3 at launch was over £400 in the UK and still sold better than the Wii U has.

Likewise in the US the PS3 was $599 and sales didn't fall below 80k per month, the Wii U has had a month where it sold 57k in the US.

Third party support is usually bad for Nintendo, but it seems even worse, the Wii U isn't even getting the next Fifa game which is telling since EA usually put Fifa on pretty much everything.

Pretty much everything that could have gone wrong with the Wii U has gone wrong, let's see.

-next to no 3rd parties - Slighty OTT
-buggy and slow os - Rubbish, Its about 1/5th as bad as people make out
-bad online service - Utter BS

.

Stop trolling,

For us Wii U owners it sits alongside our other consoles so we have a full choice, sure there needs to be more games but I certainly dont need to see all the crap that appears on the PS3 and 360 (PS4 and 720 either) appear on the Wii U, Nintendo fans mainly want Nintendo games not 3rd party and at the cost of £75 for a second hand console there is no issue if you need more than one console at present.

The problem is; 10's of millions of people have already been through and done this once before with the original Wii - and for a lot of people it didnt turn out all that well. There's naturally going to be a lot more negativity towards it's replacement. Are they right or wrong? I don't know, to be seen I guess. But I'm not hearing anywhere near the levels of hype for the first console, and I'm seeing a complete lack of software just like the first console as well. It's not exactly rosey for the WiiU right now, that's for sure.

-next to no 3rd parties
-ps4/720 are monsters spec wise with all the 3rd parties supporting them
-no 1st party games because of delays
-buggy and slow os
-bad marketing
-bad online service
-digital games linked to hardware and not account
-a lot of consumers still think the gamepad is an addon for the original Wii
-1 year headstart completely wasted

Seriously what were Nintendo doing for the 2 years that they stopped putting out first party games on the Wii? Since we won't be getting another first party game for the Wii U till at least August with Pikmin 3 and that's if we get it around the same time as the US, it could be longer.

totally agree

don't know what they were thinking

its funny how the gamecube was considered a failure when it only sold 21.74 million.

Compare that with the xbox 24 million and sega's consoles of 9.5 million for the sega saturn + 10.6 million for the dreamcast..

Nintendo marketing is different from the others, they tend to know that rather rush out the next mario/zelda, they rather take their time and there console sales will rocket up once the killer app is released.

People are saying that they don't have many 3rd party developers.. whist its true that they are few in numbers, there's most likely some bad blood from the days of the NES. What exclusive 3rd party developers that they do have sell crazy numbers.. and millions of consoles.

A lot of house holds have a pc/laptop/console for the teens/adults AND a nintendo console for the younger/casual play. So are even in competition with the other two?

The wii u setup is prime for a killer metroid or/and zelda game.

The GameCube actually made them a lot of money despite being third in overall rankings. What makes me laugh is that at the time people were like "lol lamecube" and dismissing some of the great games available like metroid prime and pikmin, followed by the whole "Nintendo have lost it, a cell shaded zelda? What were they thinking". Yet today all I hear is "ahh what a great console" and "wind waker was amazing" people are so fickle it's ridiculous.

Also makes me laugh is that people's blind hatred and dismissal of a company just becuase they aren't doing precisely what each individual wants means they'll miss out on possibly geat games this gen ( but of course they'll be classics in 10 years time :p...)

Quite. I bought a DS Lite for Phantom Hourglass. Sadly not much else grabbed me, so I sold it all on after finishing it

basically nintendo has a niche market for the people who like their exclusives, the only exception to this recently has been the wii, which was an overachiever, a great one at that.

when the wii U and their next console after this one don't sell as highly, i reckon they may have to re-think their future.

basically when the wii was launched everyone was talking about it, i know several people who all bought one, even people who have never ever owned a console before. which imo was a brilliant success, both marketing wise and for nintendo.

unfortunately i do not think the wii u has been able to capatilise on this, neither will their next console. effectively i see nintendo's future in the handheld market and licensing their exclusives out, or possibly even moving over to android. because lets face it the games they make haven't got the best of graphics, im pretty sure you could make mario, zelda, etc for android with the same graphics.

currently i do not know of a single person who owns a wii u or even wants one, it's gone back to being a niche console.

How many people bought a wii for xmas and that was it? I bet quite a few.

Personally I also see them getting weaker in console market. I also expect that a lot of people bought the wii and have been left with a bit of a bitter taste in their mouth. Tbh I think hype helped them a lot

I personally didn't like the wii, didn't buy it. Hope they turn it around

The thing is where the Wii was concerned, they already had the killer app on day 1 - Wii Sports. That was a game that got people buying the console because there was nothing like it - I bought my first console since the SNES because of it. I bought Zelda about 5 years ago but still haven't taken it out of the cellophane, LOL :) Had they not had Wii Sports I honestly don't believe Wii would have been anywhere near as successful because it got people who weren't traditional gamers interested.

Anyway going back to the OP and sales figures for Wii you need to bear in mind those are cumulative figures for a console that has been out since 2006 and many of those games are several years old too. They may have sold well in the last decade, but how many are they shifting now? Even New Super Mario Bros is a 2009 game so doesn't necessarily have much bearing on the current market (looked like it did about 20k units in most recently reported week, not even in the top 30).

When you look at the current sales charts (e.g. http://www.vgchartz.com/charts/weekly.php?reg=date=41385 ) both XB360 and PS3 are shifting well in excess of a million games a week, more than double that of Wii (even if you add in Wii-U it only totals ~700k). Looking back at previous weeks the picture is even more bleak. Hardware is similar, add Wii and Wii-U together and you get about half PS3 sales and less than XB360.

So historically Wii has been very successful but not in the modern market.
