How not to respond to a blue light vehicle!

Don't mount the pavement and don't drive into Bus Lanes. Simples. You get caught it's your own fault! Same as if you get flashed by a Red Light camera if you go over the line. Letting emergency vehicles through isn't a valid excuse, we have exemtions to the RTA. You, however do not.

Again.. I will reiterate what I said in the other thread. We will do the work. Just find somewhere SAFE and legal to stop. We don't expect you to get points or do anything illegal.

Just bare in mind that most of the time we will be in the MIDDLE of the road as we are almost always overtaking. So yes, it's good practice to allow room on the opposite side of the road to which we are travelling as it gives us more room to menouver. Especially to the tools who panic the second they see blue lights in their rear view.

Any links to a source pointing out this best practice?

Nope

From what I can see its something you dont need to do, if the road ahead of the emergency vehicle is clear, why do people traveling in the other direction behave abnormally.

Who is to say that a car they come across in front of them won't behave abnormally and refuse to shift from the centre line when they are travelling at speed?

Just continue driving, you are creating more hazards and increasing the chance of an accident by diving for the hedgerow when you clearly dont need to.

I think its called being aware of whats going on around you...

At least they made the effort to pull over and even signalled their intent. Personally I prefer people to just stop, then at least you know exactly what they're doing i.e. nothing. What is worse is when people keep moving with just enough speed to make it an awkward overtake, usually on a blind bend...

I've lost count of the number of times people pull out of junctions into my path and then pull straight over. Could you not wait 2 seconds until I pass or are your observational skills that bad you didn't see my blue lights and flashing headlights until I rammed you up the backside??!

And about the cars going against traffic pulling over, it does make it easier if you have a larger gap to get through, allows for people to move randomly at the last minute. Which people are want to do it seems.

Am sure I have some crazy footage at home I can dig out.

Skoda may have slightly over reacted initially, but once on the pavement, then as above, why not drive to the next dropped curb, no point bashing your tyres/wheels for no reason by driving off a raised curb if you can help it...

edit: That said, on looking at the vid again, the skoda did seem to be doing a bit of 'off roading', they could have come to a safe stop once on the kerb and then pulled off once the ambulance passed, instead of driving down what looks like a fair length of pavement, passed a dropped curb. So a bit of a common sense fail there lol.

Have seen far far worse from the front seat. People don't notice us no matter what the weather, siren pitch, lights on etc... It's just a general lack of awareness.

Fair play to the Skoda Driver for moving out of the way, could have stopped once on the kerb but nothing wrong with how he reacted and i certainly wouldn't slate him for it.

Looks pretty reasonable to me went up the kurb to make as much room as possible then back down 5-10m at the next dropping point, also while moving on the kurb didnt seem to drive more than 5-10 mph.....

what are you smoking?
