Yet anoher example of a Cr*ppy Power Supply

If the CPU is overclocked, that'll pull more watts than even the highest overclocked titan. The 3930k can pull some crazy wattage from a wall socket.
I agree. Still, a good 650W would be able to deliver at least 600-620W over the 12v rails, and here:

A system with i7 3930K at 4.7GHz together with a GTX590 (much higher power consumption than the Titan) pulling 525W. So a lesser unit such as the Corsair Builder Series CX600 would be cutting a bit too close, however a decent 650W unit on the other hand should be just fine.

I really cant understand some peoples views on there computer.

I thought the main thing in your pc IS the power supply,it powers everything and yet people still use crappy psu's and wonder whats wrong lol.

The power supply is the first thing you upgrade no matter what, having the best graphics card and the highest cpu overclock is nothing without a decent psu.

Yea...I once saw a lady buying a G7 PSU (probably for her son or something) at Maplin and paying like £70 for it. I wanted to say something, but she already had it at the checkout...

If i see something in a shop like what you said,i dont say anything, there is enough info on the web that says to buy a good psu, people learn the hard way im afraid.

Don't know how to do the basket quote where it shows the pictures, names and prices? (someone show me! :D)

I would like to know as well please. It always takes me an age to keep linking to different pages so if someone could demonstrate how to do the basket list, I would be grateful...

Well, £60 is enough to get a decent branded 650W PSU if found the right deal...

Absolutely. I got my Seasonic-built (Antec branded) 650W semi-modular PSU for under £60. It was either a pre-order price or a mis-price, because within a week of getting stock in the company put the price up to £90 :p OcUK sold it too, for about £85.

Always nice to get a £90 PSU for £55 :p Makes being a bargain-hunter worthwhile!

I COMPLETELY agree, but some people just dont see their priorities the way we do!

Agree on the quality and it's important to get one that should the worst happen then your PC doesn't go with it but people often grossly over-exaggerate the wattage you require. I get the point that you shouldn't run close to or at the maximum for 24/7 usage but people see multi GPU and go: "NEED 850W+ maybe 1000W" when in reality a good 750W PSU will see you safe with plenty of headroom. Really a 650W one would be OK if you aren't heavily overclocking the GPUs.

Edit: talking about a standard i5 SB/IB with 600/7000 series 2 way SLI/CF.

The 590 makes no difference whatsoever, it states its at idle, my dodgy british gas homeplug thingy says 640w system draw on mine if i just run IBT
If i run IBT and Furmark i can get it to read 1244w LOL

my poor ax1200, you can hear it panicking and spinning the fans up o.O

Aye, that's what I'm talking about. People don't seem to realise how much wattage a 3930k when overclocked can actually pull. Too use to low tdp chips I suppose.

To me your PSU is the number one component, l bought a HX850 nearly for years ago my overclock is still 24/7 stable i7 920:4.263ghz no matter what l have added or when upgrading the GPU.

As for my next build a 850w PSU will be the minimum l will use something like a Corsair or Seasonic.

Ah you are right...didn't read the text in more details. When they said "Power Consumption (Load)", I just assumed both CPU and graphic card were stressed. It was rather silly of me to have not noticed something seem wrong when the power consumption is so low with the overclocked 2011 i7 and a dual-GPU card if both were actually stressed.

This is exactly why I fitted a seasonic 1000w platinum (7yr warranty). Set me back a hefty £240 though I think. I max out both 7970's on openCL. Just hums along nicely.

Without a good psu you are really asking for trouble.
