F12 M6 & M135i Drive

Not if it's second-hand, doesn't work as intended and doesn't come with a comprehensive warranty cover.
Just wanted to make sure we're clear that were are discounting the 30 million cars that already exist in this country for the consideration as a 'bargain' because it doesn't mean the narrow criteria you've established to promote the pretty decent car that seems to have become the latest jack-off material!

Is it a good car? Yup, it's pretty damn good. Is it the best car ever and should we all be forbidden for pointing out the slight exaggeration of it's achievements that we've covered in this thread such as 'faster than a Cayman', but not, 'has more than 320 HP', not proven and probably doesn't, 'owners are doing 0-60 in NEGATIVE SECONDS' etc.

I appreciate that you're all excited about your new car, but please cool the silly claims and megadefensiveness.
Uh-oh, looks like PMKeates got refused the finance package too.
Why would I want to downgrade?

I've read that three times and I still don't understand what you're trying to say.

Someone tried to claim it's a 'bargain'. I suggested that £30k+ for a small hatchback is actually quite a lot of money. This seemed to confuse people, as they can only see it in comparison to a very narrow set of options.

Replace 330i with EP3 and that's what I'm halfway to achieving.

A fast hatch or a really fast kit car on a track, tough one.

I'm debating whether to do the track thing gradually by buying a fast hatch or something like an mx-5 and just consistently doing track days, or going all out and buying a track focused beast. Time is on my side so I have these thoughts most days :p

I'm no BMW fanboy, even less so of the 1 series, but to say that a BRAND NEW M135i doesn't offer fantastic performance at a bargain price against similar BRAND NEW hot hatches is a bit silly. How much are the "lesser" Renault, Vauxhaul, Audi, Ford etc offerings BRAND NEW?

Isn't the EP3 a bit annoying to drive?

For my 1 mile commute to work? No, not really. ;)

On track it was OK, but just like the M135i it is heavily compromised unless you start ploughing silly money into it, hence why I said earlier I'd prefer decent-enough road car + track weapon.

You're highlighting one key flaw in the argument that it's a 'bargain'. What you seem to be suggesting is that it's probably the best car in that segment of the new car market, which isn't really the same as a 'bargain'.

Surely even more annoying as you can't exactly use 8000 RPM with a cold engine? You may as well have 140 HP :p

Go with an MX-5 I would say - cheap to buy and run, RWD, not too fast and if you bin it or don't enjoy track days you haven't really lost anything. :)

I do drive the car on the odd occasion to exploit vtec yo. ;)

If by bargain you mean "cheap" then yes, 30k is a lot of money.

Bargain is the wrong word to use anyway, we should be using the term "good value", which the M135i certainly does offer.

I think PMKeates is just arguing for the sake of it now :p

It is a great car at a great price.

This is why I'm going off the idea of having a fast car for day to day use, it's pretty much pointless for my current driving.

Think I'm going to get normal car for day to day use and something special for track use. To me, it feels pointless having a fast car for day to day use as the most fun I can legally have is booting it to join the motorway. Bit of a waste!

How many track days do you do per year?

I thought the same thing, then realised I don't do any track days and want my car to be comfortable, have a decent spec i.e. nav, heated seats, ipod link, etc, look good and be reliable.

comfortable, have a decent spec i.e. nav, heated seats, ipod link, etc, look good and be reliable.

Comfortable - It's a sporty hatchback, comfort isn't exactly what it's designed for.

Decent spec - yes, if you pay BMW's pricing for it.

Looks good - Nope. It looks like a 1 series... (Just seen one at the station this morning in fact)

Reliable - BMW are pretty low in reliability league tables...

I can no longer read this endless drivel, fantastic thread started by housy ruined by a select few discussing things that really no one cares about (which appears to be a trend in motors as of late)

The thread was de-railed by people posting as if it was their M135i purchase thread, plus drivel and the rest of us picking up on it. This isn't a recent Motors trend. We can have a Motors forum full of inconsequential mindless rubbish like the rest of the car forums out there if you want.

I think the high spec F20s look fantastic. Much more interesting and upmarket design than all the other samey hatchbacks on the roads.
