Yeah he mentioned about it being renamed to "professional", it is pretty much just "natural" mode from the previous galaxy phones

Main reasons are more the technical side of things that 90% of the consumers wouldn't care about! :D :p

- not being able to turn of dynamic contrast (no need for it on SAMOLED)
- space fill regarding the sub pixel arrangement and not a RGB stripe (says he finds it noticeable on blue and red)
- brightness
- presets make no sense and don't give you any idea as to what they actually do
- heating up and throttling a lot on him
- not calibrated as well/too saturated still
- colour shifting

Amongst other wee things.

Later on at the end he says that it does sound like he is nothing but negative about the screen :p but does more or less say that is a very nice screen and a massive step up from the GS 3 screen.

He also finds movie preset to be the best for colours i.e. closest to natural/LCD


Still much prefer SAMOLED! :D :p

Yeah, I use to HATE LCD screens but ever since the one X, they are much better and definitely very good, certainly be more than happy with them.

Personally just prefer samoled for the proper blacks (not as big of a reason these days for me especially when LCDs are improving in this area), saturated colours, infinite contrast and a few other things.

I agree.

The LCD on the ONE is the best I've seen, quite a bit better than the N4 screen.

S4's SAMOLED still tops them all with ease IMO.
 
Yeah it is great listening to his opinions/thoughts and reading his articles on tech. stuff, he is very very very knowledgeable and actually knows what he is talking about unlike 80% of these reviewers! :p The only problem with his reviews etc. is that he goes a bit too overboard with the detail.

Haven't seen the one or GS 4 yet, but was pretty impressed with the N4 screen, didn't find the model that I played with much, if any worse than the one X screen, from the phones that I have seen so far, when it comes to LCD screens the iphone 5 is the best without a doubt imo.

They shouldn't be draining your battery, when apps are not in use they are supposed to sit there idle doing nothing, unless the app is broken and if that's the case then uninstall it and wait for the dev to fix it :p... you can check in settings > more > battery

To close apps that are running hold the power button, wait for the task switcher to appear then hit the button in the bottom right. As said though this shouldn't make any difference unless you have a dodgy app.
 
Just exchanged my phone at Phones 4U. Think this new one is similar. Maybe that is just the way this new screen is. Whites seems whiter on the S3 though in my opinion.

oh well.
 
Hi Nexus, just a quick update for you regarding the speakers as you wanted to know about them!

Overall if I'm totally honest I think the Note 2 speaker is a bit louder and more punchier in terms of bass, although the S4 speaker is quite a bit better than the S3's IMO. That being said, I have found the quality to be slightly more crisp on the S4 compared to the N2, although it's not something I'd be able to observe 24/7.

I'm pretty happy with this phone and I've been looking for screen issues that have been mentioned here and over at XDA and I'm glad to say I cant find any of these on my handset, so I guess that's a good thing.

The next thing I hope for now is for Wanam to release a rom for the S4 and remove some of the bloated software running on this!

If anyone would like me to do any tests or such please feel free to ask!

The overblown colours were always a weakness on the S3 and most SAMOLEDS. I never really noticed it until I had the S4 beside it. Much prefer the S4 colours.

The N4 screen is great, its only downfall is the diagonal viewing angles (turns misty) and the blacks aren't as black as the One's.

Have you rooted yet mate? If so what method did you use?

It's not the way the screen is at all. My whites are perfect white. The S3 LTE looks yellow in comparison.




As for the speaker, it's definitely better than the S2 and S3 LTE, though I've not been able to compare it to a Note 2 - I thought it had the same speaker though?

Hi mate, not rooted yet! Just going through my first full charge and then see what's up!

One slight issue though, my phone seems to be running quite hot, I've had a read over at xda and this seems to have been fixed with a firmware update? There's no updates available OTA so I guess I'll plug the phone into the PC once it's done charging and check KIES. I had a 32gb SD card in there and perhaps mediaserver was the issue; I've taken it out so will monitor that too.
 
well that blows, turns out the NFC chip used in the s4 has changed so all the random tags i have that i use with my work S3 (for automation, work demos and giggles) don't do jack :(
