*** The Official Samsung Galaxy S4 Thread ***

Thanks.

That doesn't seem too bad..... how long was the screen time spread out across?

I thought the screens were actually more PE to the previous tech. iirc the GS 4 screen is supposedly 20% more power efficient than the GS 3 screen...

2 days i got about 3.5hrs on the gs4. Not really tested the One properly.

I think the tech is 20% more efficient but as its a bigger screen it cancels out. The Soc's are deffo juicier though.

On another topic, how many of you bothered to drain the battery fully on the first few cycles? Are there any downsides to just charging from say 18% again? (I'm struggling to drain the battery!)

Don't think its worth draining the battery at all.

In 6-12 months time official batteries will be £10 at most - one of the best things about removable batteries.

HTC One has a slow charging time as they want to look after the battery more as it's sealed.

Cheers, guess I'll just let it charge then :P

Did you flash a custom rom yet kona786?

I'm tempted to try one and see if it's the ROM that's causing the overheating issues; some users over at XDA have been told by Samsung it's a software/kernel related issue and some users have had the overheating disappear after a few days, not really sure what to believe. I guess I'll have to see how things are after a few days i guess ;/

I'm stock soo far. It's too early for me to try custom roms. I hate bugs.

What are you using to monitor temps? And is your phone overheating in normal use or are you benchmarking a lot? Got a case on?

Checking using *#0228# in keypad

Have run hardly any benchmarks, the phone seems to overheat in normal use yeah, it varies depending on what though. If I'm browsing a site or whatsapp/fb it's not too bad but if I play a game (NFS or Shadowgun) it'll go to about 55c within 10 minutes.

I've just put the phone on charge and it's gone up to 47c within 5 minutes, although it's dropping back down again now (43c).

No case either btw

Hard to judge since I have no idea about your usage etc. :p but that sounds pretty good. Can't wait to see the exynos version battery life.

Suppose, but would a 0.1" difference be enough of a difference???

Is the S600 not quite a bit more power efficient overall compared to the exynos chipset in the GS 3 (s4 dual krait is), at least the CPU is afaik, not sure about the GPU side of things. Need sarge to post about that stuff! :p

I think Samsung can do a lot more with the GS 4 driver/software optimisation with the S600, the GS 3 USA version wasn't as good as the one XL when it came to battery life, when in theory it should have been just as good, if not better.

TBH, I think HTC could have got away with keeping the quick charge on as the one S, XL, X etc. haven't had any problems with their batteries failing, at least not yet... :p Plus it is li-poly so shouldn't age as quickly as li-lion (in theory)

It is the last 10% that takes forever supposedly:

What’s interesting however is that the charge curve gets the One to 85–90 percent under the normal 3 or so hours, it’s that last ten percent that takes forever.

Thx for that Nexus , I was about to sit down and start a long tapping session .

Now any ideas for I tunes ?

You could do what I've just done, basically I've got my itunes music folder synced with google music so it's all there free but only when I have a connection.

There's also an app called isyncr which syncs playlists with android devices. Small cost but it totally works.

Alternatively you could just copy your itunes music directory to an sd card depending on how much you have and then use something like allway sync which is a pc app that syncs drives, your sd card is just like another drive so it only populates changes.

Lots of options.

It seems to work perfectly fine and I can't detect any display issues at all.

The only thing that is annoying me is that despite having Apex Launcher installed and working, I occasionally and quite randomly end up in TouchWiz after unlocking. Not sure why that's happening.

Good to know cheers. Guess I will just have to wait things out until Tuesday.

Annoying that Monday is a bank holiday. Why is there not post on Sundays and Bank Holidays? Bit outdated now surely? Plenty other organisations work them.

Was very close to cancelling but can't really be bothered with the hassle of sending the phone back tbh.
