Gave the deore brakes a baptism of fire, did follow the dog and monkey trail at Cannock. The brakes are amazing, already feel more powerful than the elixir 5's ever were. Didnt bother with bedding them in before hand, I let the trail do it for me :D . Managed to do the whole trail in 1hr30mins approx, last time it took me 2hr10 mins approx, I only had 1 rest this time so my legs are feeling it. Did all the black sections except for the one after the never ending switch backs, far too dodgy for me. Me canyon was flawless, it never skipped a beat, brakes, suspension, grip, tyre pressure and gear change was just mint never had that before so it felt weird!

On the first black section on monkey trail, it starts with a little rock garden, then a berm hairpin into a drop, once I came round the hair pin to the drop I realised I wasn't going no where near fast enough and my body wanted to bail but it didn't n luckily I stopped right on the edge, pushed me bike back up for a run up, then all of a sudden had 4-5 people standing there watching me, it's not a big drop, big enough to smash your crank/down tube if you messed up though. I made it and shot off without turning back to look like a pr0 ;-).

Looked like a nasty accident onset the end, an ambulance was called and had to drive up to the poor sod!

So myself and a couple of friends are coming over to the lake district for a little while and have decided to bring the bikes with us.

Looking around we hope to check out Grizedale and Whinlatter forest parks, just wanted to hear anyone thoughts about them? Any must do routes?

Done Grizedale loads of times as its my localish one, its ok. Not to technical at any point but still fun, theres a short black route which takes about 2 minutes to get down which is good.

I went to Whinlatter a month back and it's good, theres a north and south red loop which are good, the north loop has a ******* climb at first but has some good flowing sections. South loops similar start of with loads of climbing and then have a good bit of decent.

Whinlatter is far better than grizedale in my opinion.

If you can read a map well theres loads of routes you can do. Pop into Wheelbase im sure they'll give you some directions to some natural stuff.

Whinlatter is rubbish. Doesn't flow well. The best sections aren't long enough to enjoy. I would rather go rambling than ride Whinlatter.

Grizedale is nice enough if mixed in with a longer ride using the bridleways nearby but is a bit disappointing on it's own. If you're near Ambleside pop in to Bike Treks for some local routes.

Well just got back from riding the Red route at Dalby Forest. Overall impressions are good. Only gripe I have is a lot of the flatter sections are quite rocky and take a lot of energy to keep moving over them. Good training as you are always peddling, even on some of the downhills. Cracking day and weather overall!!
