Lauryn Hill jailed for tax evasion

Singer Lauryn Hill has been sentenced in the US state of New Jersey to three months in jail for tax evasion.

Only three months? I thought she'd be gone til November

Disgusting realy, lock her in a cage because she wanted to keep the money she earned. Even though she has had $1 million stolen now they want to make an example out of her and when she gets out of prison she still has to be a prisoner in her own home, realy realy disgusting display of grotesque power of the state. Nothing better than common thieves. They would have taken her kids away and sold them to another family and then taken everything she owns, even after all that they will still ruin her name. Disgusting. IF she resisted any of this with force, they would not have hesitated to murder her. Next time you think about how great and caring the state is. think of this one.

People who don't pay tax when they use services, roads, and in particular over her time making that money she would have been subject to lots of security services from the police and the like, cops at concerts and keeping track of stalkers, etc. Everyone also knows exactly what happens if you don't pay tax, you've got the group of idiots that get conned by others that if they pay some guy, that guy will teach them how to get away with not paying taxes, then you just get flat out idiots who refuse to pay. THere are also those who think they have the cash, have some scheme to invest in, think investing more money will mean more returns then they can pay the tax out of the returns.... then the investment goes sour and they no longer have the cash to pay the initial taxes. Don't invest cash you already owe, its not difficult, its utterly stupid, and greedy morons do it all the time.

Black celebrities always get stuck in jail while the others don't for the same thing. Or at least it seems that way...i'm surprised they got Blade in the slammer without any blood spilt.

If she really wanted to do something about it, she would be campaigning against taxes, and not just saying "I'm an ex-slave blah blah". Rule #1, pay what's owed or at least make arrangements to pay.

She's got media attention... maybe now she's sold more records?

LIke who, Snipes? He got involved with as above, one of these idiots who teaches people how to not pay tax, despite being born in the US, being a citizen he claimed he was a non resident alien to the states, and didn't have to pay tax. He actually got a very tame jail sentence as half of what he got done for he wasn't convicted for, only 3 of the lesser charges or not filing taxes, the fraudulent tax claims he put in where he basically was saying the government.

The guy who was "teaching" him to be a complete nonce, got a decade in jail, and was white AFAIK.

AFAIK Cage owed a buttload, because he was spending like a maniac, but the tax he didn't pay compared to what he was spending was actually quite small, and because of his income potential, he's not really a jail threat because he's paying it off and the main issue is, there are people who willfully refuse to pay the tax, or actively lie about the tax they owe(Hill and Snipes) and there are people who are idiots, have every intention of paying, never tried to not pay, and will are paying off whats owed, like Cage.

Hill and Snipes are seen as public figures encouraging others to not pay their taxes, Cage is seen as a huge cash cow of income and fines in tax money, two you punish, one you milk.... hard.
