Have any of you other Z4 owners done any modifications to your cars? I'm not really into mods, but in terms of aesthetics I was thinking of changing the ariel to a "stubby".

Best mod I made to mine was selling it!

Not an e89 though. It was the old model which had melted cheese for steering

Did you sell the M3 a year ago? Time flies..

Enjoy the Z4!

Yeah it was pretty much a year ago; gone by really fast! Not a decision I regretted as the fuel was being wasted on my commute to work, but now I'm doing less miles to work I wanted another petrol BMW.

Panthro, have you got yourself on the Z4 Forum yet? I've got an E85 myself, so not sure about mods for an E89, but the community there is helpful and quick to respond, should you have any dramas or questions.

I've personally kept my Z4 as stock as possible, only doing the "Stubby Mod" and "Sound Generator Mod", which aren't really mods at all!

Thanks, I'll register on there later today I think.

Very nice. These seem good value now, what are the expected residuals ?

Not really sure, but mine was around £50k brand new so its lost half its value in under 3 years! I think it will be worth around £15k in 3 years time, just as a guestimate.

I keep looking at white s35i with red interiors.

If it absolutely has to be white, then go for mineral white!

Do you still live in Reading? You're welcome to have a look round mine if/when I pick it up. Cooper Reading said they will have it by Thursday.

This is lovingly referred to as the "tarts handbag" scheme on pistonheads dealer thread and apparently the price of them is more negotiable (obviously depending on how long they have had it) because of it.

As for mods, you could do this or this but please don't. I think the most popular thing to do is a smart top which I don't blame them for getting tbh. It adds control of the roof to the key (for closing - it's already there for opening), can put mirrors up on lock, one touch roof open / close, open close while moving (now on 2012+ cars but they got stronger internals to deal with it), luggage mode or whatever it is (puts the roof parts half up so you can access the boot quicker) and some other nik naks. Outside of this AC do a hugely overpriced kit that is.... personal taste dependant. Some guy modded DRLs into the grey bar through the middle of the lower side front bumper bit and I can't find the picture but it looked pretty good.

As for the engine, there's a ton of N54 stuff out there as the engine's in nearly everything they sold for a few years. For warranty I paid £360/y a few days ago for the 35i (no recovery, £100 excess, comprehensive). I have got 28 MPG over 15 months so far.

The white ones look nice with black wheels though :p

Panthro, I'm still near Reading. I had one on an extended drive a few years ago http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18154115&highlight=S35i

Also did a few laps of the Nurburgring F1 circuit in a yellow S35is. The DCT was awesome but the paddles were a little annoying with the 'pull up /push down' paddles, especially after driving the M3 which had a 'proper' paddle setup.

S2000 is nearly on 150k so prob time for something new and a remapped S35i would be nice, 390hp would do.

Someone at my station's carpark has a white one, much like this..

Looks fantastic in the flesh.

The 2012 model onwards has the M3 style DCT paddles and they are easily retrofitted (apparently). I might do that in the near future as I don't like the push pull paddles.

Welcome to the club :)

Also, bear in mind the retrofit is basically a halfords DAB that you tune-in to with your radio. Not good.

Thanks; I didn't know that about the DAB. It's not really an essential for me, more of a "would be nice to have". Main thing is the USB connectivity.

I'll be going over the car on Saturday. There are some things I would like that are not listed on the BMW website; namely:

Wind deflector - if it doesn't come with a wind deflector I will insist they throw it in.
Xenon headlights (although I think these are standard)
M Sport adjustable suspension
Extended Storage

The only thing it doesn't have that I really wanted was comfort access, but again, I can live without it.
