NO I would still have an issue with it because any pregnancy at that age pretty much ruins there life , their education and their future.

people around that age also are not likely to form a long lasting relationship

Would people be as angry if their child was having sex at a young age, if that child was a boy? getting it on with an older girl?

Thats two different issues then. One is the practical issues which might affect her life, the other is outrage at an older man sleeping with her.

I assume you would also have a problem with your daughter getting pregnant at 16 right? So its not really an issue of the age of consent but more about getting pregnant at a young age.

It would be nice to think that the legal profession were exemplars for logic and intelligence but unfortunately the profession is not immune to individuals with dubious opinions either.

However, like you, I'm far from convinced that the story is a completely accurate representation of what was said.

I'm not totally sure what her gender in the thread title has to do with the issue but I guess it makes for something else to pick on. And I've removed the Twitter link as that would appear to be just encouraging people to send dodgy messages to her.

My daughter will be 13 a month tomorrow. The mere thought that she could then reach the age of consent it is utterly repugnant. Mind you, the thought of anyone getting their grubby hands on my daughter when she is 18 or 25 or 40 makes my blood boil.

How old are we talking here? Because a 13 year old boy with a 30 year old woman is a bit friggin weird. A 16 year old girl being interested in bedding a 13 year old boy probably raises more questions about the girl tbh.

e: I'm also massively lol'ing at all the angry dads in this thread. I can't wait for a generation of girls with daddy issues to blossom.

My boys will be good Dads. They don't want to start that at ~13.

If I had girls I would be an unmitigated disaster for any potential suitor.

This is a little disingenuous.

It is not legal for a 40 year old man to have sex with a 13 year old girl in Spain. The 13 level has a lot of caveats added to it and is basically there to prevent the criminalisation of young teens having a fumble. I think you'd find the age at which someone can have sex with anyone they want is higher than 13.

I totally agree. Especially not with significantly older guys...I also dont think the age of consent needs to be lowered.

All im saying is that the reason we are so outraged at the idea of a 13 year old having sex is simply because we have been raised in a society where an arbitrary age of 16 was chosen as the age of consent. As a previous poster just said, if we had been raised in spain, we wouldnt see such outrage.

I still think 16 is way too young. 21 should be the minimum age.

Yes. Because the minimum age of 16 stops us from having sex younger than that.

If kids want to have sex, they'll find a way. Much the same as they'll find a way to have a cigarette or a beer without parents finding out.

Crimes, if you make the minimum age 21 we'll end up with a nation of (even more) sexually repressed deviants that wander around town with hard-ons every time they see an underwear advert on a bus or billboard.
