Which of these monster coolers

hi thanks, for the info doyll, i was mainly looking at buying second hand to save some cash as they're all on the MM at the moment.

is it true that the Silver Arrow cant handle higher overclocks/voltages?

Never tried. Didn't know you could to add voltage and overclock a cooler. :D

I know of nobody who has had any problems with using Silver Arrow SB-E not having good cooling when CPU was overclocked. Above review was on i7 3820@4750GHz.. stock is 3.6GHz.

Here's a chart showing cooler performance with from 117watts to 345watts heat. SA SB-E is best air cooler.. 5th in chart after 4 CLC coolers.

Edit: Just noticed they've added the new Noctua NH-U14S and NH-U12S to the chart.

I meant the CPU as with TTL's review between Silver Arrow(old SA) vs Noctua DH14, it said that after 4.7GHz the Silver arrow reached around 100C
but i doubt my board/cpu can even reach those speeds so, I wonder if that is something to consider.

TTL is awesome. :)

Is your board got voltage control? If so, you can attempt those speeds. I can get 4.7 on my £50 (secondhand Z68 motherboard). :)

TTL rambles so much I can't stand him.:D

It's all about how much heat the cooler can dissipate. And from what I've see the SA SB-E, old SA, NH-U14S, PH-TC14PE, NH-D14, K2, are all within a few degrees of each other at the kind of wattage most of us use when overclocking. At a guess if you are using over 200w you will most likely be using custom water.

I'd ignore that review tbh. I remember him telling me he had issues installing his SA (even though it's the easiest thing in the world). Plus the new SA is better anyway.

I'm not sure, how do you check?

One of the reasons I like him :D
I would be happy enough to achieve 4.5GHz :D

Yeah I read/heard that too and I think it was due to how the fan clips were designed.
It looks better too with the aggressive looking heatsinks :D

Go onto the bios and look for vcore. If you can change the number either by typing or using a drop down selection box you can.. If you can't, you will have to rely on auto vcore, which isn't great...

@Jony27 you can on that board in your sig,you can't however use loadline calibration and dvid together on that board, its one or the other

llc prevents cpu vdroop at load and dvid allows cpu to downclock at idle and full overclock speed/voltages at load

to unlock dvid for adjustment you set cpu voltage to normal

its better than a constant fixed cpu voltage imo,but clock however you feel fit

He does ramble on a bit but it's worth it because despite it he covers absolutely everything and he terms difficult and complex items so that even the less tech-minded viewers understand.

I'd rather watch Lauren's explanations. :D

TTL does a layman's review but it's also biased by his person opinions. Guess that's okay.

I find it quite hard to understand her sometimes.

Yeah, he does have a biased opinion especially towards white cases

My K2 has served me well, I'm only selling it due to going full water-cooling :)

Each of those coolers will suit you well, but my vote goes to K2 from personal experience.

A couple of mates got K2's and love them. I've never heard any complaints about them. Some change the fans. Uncle Petey put TY-147 on his if I remember right and it performed even better and quieter. Now's he's Unclue Petey as he's gone to the dark wet custom water side. :D

I iz a traitor :(... and just one TY-140/147/Scythe GT/Akasa Piranha @1000rpm does very well on a K2.

OP, they're all great coolers and all very close in performance, so as long as it clears your ram and fits in your case, buy whichever looks the prettiest :)
