Days Out (UK)

South Lakes Animal Park is a nice way to spend a day. Can be done very cheaply too if there's a Tesco clubcard voucher event on.

The aquarium in Maryport was better than I expected. The aquarium in the lakes at the south end of Windermere however was very expensive for a few trout and other fresh water fish.

Next on our list of days out will be The Deep in Hull, looks good and heard good things about it. As you can probably tell our 2 year old loves fish and animals.

Castle Howard is nice for a day out and in the same area Eden Camp is well worth a visit if you've any interest in WW2.

The weekend just gone, I went to the West Midlands Safari Park and I really enjoyed it, and would recommend it if you like animals. :)

As the weather is getting nicer (randomly/sort of) I am wanting to go on more days out, have you been anywhere nice recently? Recommend the days out here!

we went there the other weekend. i live in lincoln and had never heard of it until recently. definitely a good day out.

Shocking fancy turning up somewhere which provides family entertainment to find kids running around enjoying themselves (thats what the running around and shouting is btw). And shame of those parents allowing that to happen even if they have just forked out £50+ for the pleasure.

as a relatively new dad i can see both sides of the coin here.

most kids are well behaved but its the annoying ones you notice. i heard a parent at WMSP saying 'go chase the wallaby', they all had joeys in their pouches so really didnt need to be bouncing away from ADHD kids. but then again most of them were very gentle with the animals.

my son was in a bad mood as he had just fallen asleep 10 mins before we arrived so wasnt happy we woke him up. and he was teething. some times no matter what you do kids are in a bad mood. i guess its about trying to get them to behave as best as possible and telling them off for bad behaviour.

before i had my son i found crying kids annoying and always assumed it was poor parenting. some times they just play up. my son is at that almost 2 year old stage where he is pushing boundaries to see how far he can push us. most of the time he is a lovely kid though.

I would never go to WMSP, they sold on white lions to an intermediary who they know well, and then ended up in a japanese circus. Their attitude to the event was bad, denying they knew when they did according to insiders, reports of other animal cruelty, and deleting posts on their facebook when people questioned it.

do you have any evidence of this or just happy slandering them? :D did they know it was being resold to a circus? if its true then this is really bad but if it isnt you are just ****ging off what is a nice place. wasnt that expensive either. less than £30 for me, mrs and nipper and you can take your own food (it wasnt good there)

i saw plenty of lions that were rescued and near to death at the time, that now looked very well looked after in their very nice enclosures. all the animals looked really happy there and the facilities for them was excellent.

having been on safari in kenya i would much rather be in a zoo if i was an animal (albeit a nice one). life is a bloody struggle in the wild

Cotswold wildlife & country park is a great day out.

Also Cosford airbase, which is free to enter better than Duxford IMo
Coventry transport museum is good, free as well.

Sit in traffic for hours.
Have to carry around clothes for all weathers.
Nowhere to park your car
Queue for hours
Pay over the odds for entrance, refreshments, souvenirs
Having to tolerate other people's screaming brats.

Nope, I don't think I've ever had a good day out in the UK.

Edit: I tell a lie, we once went for a day out to the Sellafield Visitor's Centre on a very wet and windy day. That was OK actually.

Can't remember the last time i had to put up with anything like that on a day out, except paying over the odds which is easily remedied by driving a few miles to the nearest village cafe.

As for days out for us a day up to Seahouses/Bamburgh is one of our favorites. Don't need to visit the castle (though its worth it) plenty of rock pools / beach to fill your time plus boating trips. Or Belsay has lovely grounds/hall/castle and the quarry gardens. Also Raby Castle is well worth a visit.

not to turn this into a parenting thread, two of my nephews, i can control now. Just give them a warning & then time out if they don't listen or a count down from 3-1. 99% of the times they do listen but the downside is they see me as an authoritative figure so i bet they dont like me so I think there is a balance to be had.. (i dont give them warnings etc willy nilly, just when they misbehave)
