I'm always against it. I'm an engineer and my partner is a teacher. We'd both love one but the thought of leaving it alone at home all day just seems cruel to me.
Our neglected dog winning best in show at 18 weeks old.

She can't manage a full one
The point is a dog doesn't mind being left alone as long as it has consistency. We leave at the same time every day and come back at the same time everyday, it knows full well that when we come back it has a good walk and a good feed and lots of love, if you have irregular shifts then it may be a bad idea.
Indeed. We put up a webcam and all it does is sleep all day when we leave him alone while we're at work.
I mean would this work as I eventually want to join the force, but I would also like to own a dog, but it would be unfair to leave the dog on its own for too long any helpful suggestions ?
Thanks

I leave my Siberian Husky at home alone from 7.30am to 3.30pm in her cage.
People don't seem to be able to accept that a dog is exactly that, it is not a human nor does it have the same requirements as a human. I wouldn't want to be locked in a cage all day, she on the other hand seem to love it.
This is vastly more important, some people in here are living in fairylandhe gets a much better life being left 7 hours at home, then loved than he would being left in a shelter somewere.
My dog is left from 8 till 1 (when I go home and take her out for a good walk) then from 2 till 4 (when I get home and take her out for a good walk). Once / twice a week she goes to my parents, who love her as much as she loves them.
Is this neglect?
