Most Underrated TV Show?

Ideal

Johnny Vegas/Graham Duff. Stuck on BBC3, never got the recognition it deserved. It had *one* **slightly** poor series and that was it, gone. Still better than most of the sitcoms on the mainstream channels.

Might have to give Longmire another shot, i watched the pilot episode ages ago because of Katee Sackhoff but then forgot all about it.

Seeing shows like Firefly and Deadwood being classed as underrated is a bit weird with hindsight, now widely regarded as some of the best television you can see. I bet a lot of execs regret past decisions for a lot of shows :p

Was really enjoying this. Seemed like it was going to be really good before it just disappeared forever :(

Same, I pretty much never start watching a new show now until a second season has been officially confirmed.

I've never been so annoyed at the cancellation of a show before. Story was great, looked excellent, built up and built up every episode until the season finale cliffhanger which was :eek:then cancelled!?! WHAT HAPPENS NEXT??:mad::mad:

Yeh I'm definitely still bitter. :D

It happens far too often, at least some networks have the good sense to warn failing shows so they can shoot the final episode with some closure. Even shows that get to the second season are not immune, just look at Alphas, excellent show, great characters and story... then boom; cancelled on a cliff hanger. Thanks again Syfy!

Most under rated, hmm.

Veronica Mars, cult following, maybe general people were put off because of the high school aspect but it was never remotely "kiddie" or teeny, it was just a awesome show, it should have been pushing ER style unmissable network ratings and not been cancelled for ages, and got its FBI seasons. While much appreciated, it should have been much much bigger.

Kings was almost completely ignored by everyone, Iain Mcshane, great cast, great writing, had god in it but wasn't "religious" in that way AT ALL.

Charlie Jade, fantastic series, brilliantly done, great to see a completely different location for a change, I never know anyone who has seen it.

Bored to Death, another show that seemed to have a cult following but was funny/quicky/brilliantly writen/epic cast that meant it should have been mainstream, loved and still be around.

I loved Rubicon, seems no one else did so it's no more :p
Loved Rubicon, only caught it on BBC Three and then realised it never went anywhere :(

Was a fan of Coupling when it was on - a better version of Friends , Geoff was awesome

ps3ud0

The description and look of it (without watching) gave it that teen feel, which as you say would have put a lot of people off from even trying it. I'd bet there are a lot of people who scoffed at it whilst airing but have enjoyed it after sitting down to watch just one episode, i know i did. Book, cover 'n all that.

I think what made it worse was finding out right at the end that the actual "Event" was yet to happen. So then you're just left staring at the screen as the credits roll, wondering what they had planned for season 2.

Still, I don't mind committing to shows even when I know they've been cancelled after a season, it's a bit frustrating when you hit the end but they're often still enjoyable to watch.

Oh, another one I'll add to the underrated list: Persons Unknown. Like The Event, it got cancelled after one season just as it was really starting to get somewhere.

Watched a few eps of FlashForward, didn't like it though. Acting was really bad and the English guy annoyed me to no end.

Not got round to watching Alcatraz yet, did watch Last Resort about a month ago though. Wasn't terrible, but it was quite silly, not hard to see why it didn't get renewed.

It got cancelled after one season a few years ago but I thought Terriers was fantastic.

Terriers was absolutely awesome, the cast was fantastic, the acting fantastic, the writing fantastic and the plot was actually believable and not didn't randomly throw in a huge twist every 7 minutes that made no sense like Lost and everyone else tries to do these days. Massive shame it got cancelled, very glad it got the full season and it wrapped up the main story arc quite well.

The Event, Flashback, and other things I personally thought were terrible, these gimmick shows always go too big, want the story to unfold over 28 years, and once you get to the end, it won't make any damn sense anyway. they all want to be Lost, the trouble is, everyone watched Lost and realised the end was rubbish because the nonsensicle gibberish that was the 6 seasons before the ending never made sense and could never be wrapped up sensibly. Writers want to make the new Lost, but the audience is on to them and don't want to wait 6 years of stupid shows that seem almost good in isolation but back to back make a stupid story that makes no sense and then gets wrapped up with something that doesn't make sense either.

Terriers and Charlie Jade are two of the most deserving shows around for being taken forward. Charlie Jade had "finished" though, as in from the ground up the whole series had a huge story line that finished very very well, but there was a lot of scope and talk about a second series. It was really one of the biggest story arcs I can think of that was really writen out and designed to be a single season to start with, as such it finished brilliantly, but the universe, lore, characters it created would have worked excellently for a second series.
