Is my external HDD buggered?

It's a buffalo HD-E1.0TU2-UK. Mains powered.
Until today I had no problems but i've just tried to use it and it won't turn on.
I can hear a very quiet clicking noise. But that's it.
Is it worth buying a new PSU to see if that will get it working? Or is it broken?
If it is broken how can I recover the data?
I really hope it isn't broken as i've got loads of photo's on it

You could try taking it out of the external case and plugging it directly into a SATA slot.

Always keep a backup

If you buy a hard drive for storage, buy a second one for keeping a 1:1 copy of the first!

This is my backup! I bought it in case something happened to the hard drive in my laptop.

I feel your pain, I have suffered great loss..I now feel quite comfy that after such grief, I have made sure it will not happen again.

And what happens when the backup of the backup fails?

I'll see if I can recover the data somehow if the drive is busted.

If it is your backup, then you already have another copy of your photos, replace the drive and carry on.

-Not trying to be an arse here, but if you only have one copy of them, it's a storage drive and not a backup!
