MP's - Pay rise

This an important point.

What do you think the average persons wages would have to be to enable them to be left with £66,000 a year after thier paying taxes and expenses?

Because whatever that figure is that is what they are currently earning imo.

I can earn that in a year and have an expense account, and I don't do anything like as important as making decisions that effect the course of the country.

Should I give some of it back?

My boss, who isn't even at director level, earns 75k a year, what about him?

If you work for a private company then you can earn as much as you like, it is no business of anyones what you earn in that case and good luck to you

No disrespect but most teachers are bloody useless.

Really? At my children's schools (they attend separate schools), I can identify two teachers who seem pretty useless out of around 20 that they have between them. The remainder are either good or very good. A number are quite odd but good all the same. So most teachers that I come across are definitely not useless.

100k to run the country isnt that bad imo.
The big percentage increase is a problem though.

There needs to be a reform to their payments.

And for those saying about driving the miles- if you are an MP in the north and have to drive to the south for Parliament.. hows that different to me expensing mileage to my company for meeting a company/client in the south? Its just how it works.

How about a minimal wage with a bonus scheme for meeting the targets and promises on their manifesto....oh wait they would all be on the minimal wage ;)

Perhaps we need to pay more to attract better people from other areas, so we don't get the dross we have?

possibly. but they shouldnt have any external activities such as being directors etc. far too many of them have vested interests in decisions they make when they should think of what is best for the country.

also, they should pay for their 2nd homes from that money.

Their second homes are only required due to their jobs as MPs, so why should someone other than the government pay for them?

Like I mentioned before, if you lived in cornwall and got a job in scotland, would you keep your home in cornwall? or sell it and move? Clearly you dont expect your employers to give you extra money for your cornwall residence?

Why should it be different for MPs. If they live far away they should relocate or not have taken the job in the first place. Isnt this the way they abused the expenses? claiming upkeep on one residence, then switching..
