Your in a internet forum, in a subsection called general discussion complaining about people expressing their opinions? You do understand the concept of a forum right?

And then to try to enforce your point of people with opinions needing to keep them to themselves, you then make an unfounded opinion on my life and try to use it as a insult.

Also last fine I checked I have never hit and run someone the bragged about it on the internet, so IM to the beach to get a nice supply of rounded stones, they're better in an aerodynamic sense

I thought it was the role of the CPS to decide if someone was going to be formally accused. Obviously they take the wishes of the alleged victim into account, but it's not the alleged victim's decision.

The victim can choose to press charges if he or she wishes to (but that doesn't necessarily result in prosecution). However if they decide not to then the CPS might decide to prosecute anyway (if it is in the public interest). At that point they will call upon the victim as a witness for evidence.

Fair enough. I thought the victim didn't get to make the decision in order to stop every Tom, Dick and Harry from wandering into Police Stations and demanding to press charges about totally frivolous stuff.

When i got knocked down I was sent a letter offering me four choices on how I "recommended" the driver was punished. It was either

- No Action
- Safety Course
- Points and fine
- Court

I opted for Safety course

You cannot "press charges", that's a myth. You can support a prosecution, but its not up to you to decide who gets charged or arrested. Most prosecutions will struggle without the victims support in terms of a statement, but some offences can be dealt with without the support of the victim.

Sometimes, like above, you're input and opinion will be asked for in terms of disposal methods, but the final decision still rests with police/cps.

Domestic violence is a good example, 9 times out of 10, the victim won't assist the police (even after ringing up themselves), but it won't stop the offender being arrested, and possibly charged if other evidence is available.
