Monaco Grand Prix 2013, Monte Carlo - Race 6/19

Been reading here and there a few comments saying Merc have now sorted out their tyre issues. This isn't the case at all.

Fully expect them to be shredding their rears to bits in the next few races.

As Jenson said the front runners were lacking serious speed and that was all down to Rosberg controlling the pack and cruising around (like a bus according to Vettel)...

Monaco was the perfect race for them, blistering one lap pace, stick it on pole impossible to pass. I think Vettel could have gone for the win easily today but he knew passing wasn't without risk and with his main challengers quite a bit behind him he effectively may as well have won the race.

^^ I think you are probably right, but then lots said the same about them today and they won.

Wrt: Grosjean, I still think he's getting better, but hardly surprising that someone who is known for having issues with not crashing crashed at Monaco. Given the rest of this season though I do feel he has improved compared to last year, AND if he manages to do as he has done so far this season continuing with how he's performed this year so far, I don't see why there's an issue keeping him in an f1 car, and generally last year I would have said get him off the grid 100%.

The problem is he has improved (as in crashing less), but his performance has been compromised as a result. Plus, even though he is crashing less, he is STILL crashing and they aren't small nudges either. The only way I see him staying is because of a lack of a driver to replace him.

That kimi comment is so kimi, I just can't imagine any other driver saying it. So glad he came back to F1 :)

Agreed they tried the same in Spain but here it was perfect for them to manage the pace for everyone, but even Brawn admitted this weekend would not prove much to them if they had solved anything.

The result worked out well for him today, outscoring Alonso and Raikkonen, who are the more likely ones to challenge for the WDC.

He is, you'd be a fool to bet against him getting 4 WDCs in a row now. I think he could surpass Schumacher's record as well. History in the making.

Still blows my mind to think that if it wasn't for the blown diffuser loophole, we would probably be looking at 5. Schumi's record doesn't look so safe all of a sudden. I still don't know what to make of Vettel though - I have yet to see him battle for a championship in the same way that Schimu did.

From the one driver who probably couldn't punch his way out of a paper bag or summon the energy to try :D

I don't have a problem with Perez, it's nice to see someone having a go at monaco. His move on Button was sensational. His aggression and speed will pay dividends soon I'm sure.

That or the FIA will crush him and make him conform like the rest the rest of the field. I personally think it is great too, adds entertainment value :)

Bit of a dull race for the top 4. Apart from the red bulls jumping Hamilton some how, nothing happened.

If it wernt for the crashes it was still a bit meh and too much of one following the other round which can't be helped here.

Lucky thus k w I missed and recorded so could fast forward through a lot of it.

should have been a merc 1-2.

The TV editor did no favours for this race, we seemed to miss every bit of action on track.
Martin and Anthonys just compounded the issue, i'm not sure what there watching during the race but for the most part it seems to be anything but the live feed.

True, I think Grosjeans lack of competitiveness with Kimi is his true issue....

Vettel in a massively strong position there. Even though the races have seemed quite random, red bull seem to be in an even stronger position this year.

Vettel is becoming more like Kimi point wise, just better at it atm....

Statement from the FIA:

Monaco, May 26th

At the beginning of may, the FIA was asked by Pirelli if it was possible for it to carry out some tyre development testing with a team, using a current car. Within the contract Pirelli has with the FIA as a single supplier, there is provision for them to carry out up to 1000km of testing with any team - provided every team is offered the opportunity to do so.

Pirelli and Mercedes-AMG were advised by the FIA that such a development test could be possible if carried out by Pirelli, as opposed to the team that would provide the car and driver, and that such tests would be conditional upon every team being given the same opportunity to test in order to ensure full sporting equity.

Following this communication, the FIA received no further information about a possible test from Pirelli or from Mercedes-AMG. Furthermore, the FIA received no confirmation that all teams had been given an opportunity to take part in this test.

In addition, with regard to to the application of the sport's rules, including prociple of sporting equity, it should be remembered that tine International Sporting Code provides that on the basis of a report of the stewards of the meeting, or on it's own initative, the prosecuting body of the FIA may bring a matter before the International Tribunal.

The Tribunal may decide to inflict penalties that would supercede any penalty the stewards of the meeting may have isssued. Such procedure would be followed in persuance of the FIA Judicial and Disciplinary Rules.

So it's in their contract, as long as all teams are offered. Well according to Pirelli, they all were given asked if they would be willing last year, only some teams responded.

The only thing I can see as the problem is the FIA received no further information about all teams being asked...

Some people have said that this is the FIA dropping Mercedes and Pirelli in the cacky, it looks more like they are confirming that permission was given to run a current car as long as all teams were asked if they wanted to take part in tests. Well, they were last year.

Hmmm...

I think Pirelli will walk away from F1 at the end of the year.
FIA have been a bit slow in extending their contract and Pirelli have been a bit vocal about the delay.

This all smells of Bernie, its the kind of games he likes to play, but this has nothing to do with him.

Mercedes say all teams were asked
Pirelli say all teams were asked
The FIA claim to know nothing about it

It would be blatantly obvious what was going on when Mercedes didn't go home. The suggestion it was somehow "secret" is farsicle. Are they saying nobody noticed F1 cars testing for 3 days? I used to live 3 miles away from Keevil airfield and we knew every time F1 teams used it for straight line testing. You could hear it from miles away.

Everybody knew. But people are being selective with the details for their own agenda. Red Bull and Ferrari are being competitors and hoping it gets Mercedes into trouble We should expect nothing less. But the more worrying thing is the FIA. Are they basically admitting they are completely incompetent at enforcing the testing ban if people are able to test for 3 days without them knowing? At a track their guys would have still been at clearing up? No, of course not. What they are doing is deliberately tightening the Pirelli screw for whatever motive they are chasing. Be it Pirelli out next year, or a contract that favours the FIA.

Any tyre manufacturer has until September 1st to define next years tyres. If the FIA want someone else, they need it to happen fast. What better way than to publicly drag Pirelli though the mud?

/tin foil hat.

Also, does this have a name yet?

Testing-gate?
Tyre-gate?
Super-Secret-Mercedes-and-Pirelli-Test-with-no-invite-for-Red-Bull-or-Ferrari-gate?
