Nvidia pricing is a joke?

The problem is you are not taking what the competition has on offer, or even Nvidia's own last gen cards.

The Titan is no doubt the fastest card that is right now, but it is not million miles ahead of the 7970 (or even the GTX680). The GTX780 is still good margin faster than the 7970 yes (around 0-20% ahead depending on the game), but it is not £230-£250 faster. Also it is as bit-tech has put it, that kinda of increase should be something expected of moving gen after over 12 months, but without the price bumping (from £400 to £550). With the GTX780 on £550 on average, it should had been something that launched 12 months ago alongside the GTX680 rather than now.

But the price is not your call. What you think is irrelevant. If the market can stand it and there is demand then this is what dictates the price.

Its all about making money. If you don't like it don't buy it.

Em...seriously, I don't know what are you doing in this thread. It's not about buying or not, it is a "discussion about the pricing".

We don't need a lesson on supply and demand. People willingly (or unwillingly) buying the the card at the asking price and the card being good value or not are two different things.

Even way before the launch of GTX780, me and quite a lot of people have expressed concern about the Titan's high price would lead to an effect of inflating the pricing of the "normal" range cards. The GTX780 at £550 to be honest...is still reasonable on a sense, as top-end graphic card has hit that kinda of pricing before, however the biggest problem is that it is not offering a big enough bump in performance over previous gen's top-end card, despite the £150-£250 price bump.

I could even argue that GTX780 at £550 is not unexpected, but its small performance increase over GTX680/7970 is a joke (rather than pricing).
Am I really reading graphics cards being compared to McDonald's?
It's certainly not like for like comparison, but I was merely using it as an example for simple illustrating that "not willing to pay that much" and "can't afford" are two different things. If you look back at the discussions, you see lots of people seem to say to others "don't buy it if you can't afford it", and people replied along the lines of "I certainly got the fund for it, but I'd rather get 7950(s) instead thank you". The point is...some people should stop with the "don't complain about the price if you can't afford it you poor man" attitude, because quite frankly it is insulting. Reviewers get free samples for their hardware, but that doesn't mean they don't criticise about the price and poor value.

You both have points: the market will determine whether the price is acceptable and really the market completely overrides all individual concerns about the pricing. The ethical side of it (for want of a better term) can be debated but essentially it's going to make no difference. The market will decide whether or not these prices are acceptable.

What's funny is an overclocked 780GTX beats our Titans and costs 300 euro less only 3 months after its release and you don't see the problem

I don't...

GTX670 OC > GTX680
GTX460 OC > GTX470
HD4870 OC > HD4890
GTX560ti OC > GTX570

Its always been that way when the are so many cards in the lineup, performance is always close, besides its not like you cant OC the Titan.

To be fair though there's not 300 euro price difference between those cards, if there was im guessing you might have a different view. :p

Jealousy being blamed again? *facepalm*

I'm surprised you of all people don't think it's ridiculous, as a fair amount of Titan owners seem to be the ones that are most annoyed by the GTX780.

Don't be surprised, its a defensive reaction to criticism of a hero.

I have a Titan and i think the cost of it is disgusting ! so what exactly am i jealous of ?

You see this kind of comment really gets up my nose, you say you can't see the problem well then you're not paying attention. I don't see any jealousy in this thread just people who could probably afford a 780GTX but are unwilling to pay over the odds for it.

Doesn't a Titan have double the vram and also double the compute performance though?

How much for a 3970X  I can't justify that price for a CPU, so I shan't get one. Intel pricing is a joke...

But it is a joke, it's just a higher clocked 3930k which is half the price almost.

The 3930K compared to the Gulftowns are pretty reasonable, but an unrealistic price rise in percentage from the Quad core imo, I think it's steep, but not a joke, I'd get a second hand 3930k for ~300.

For that matter, so are 270 pound i7's over the i5's, it's pretty much all mark up.

Intel and AMD have been doing this with CPU's for years and years and years. Has nothing to do with the current state of GPU prices

with 3Mb more cache... cmon... it worth every penny :D

NOT

Prices of gtx780 have started to drop if you look around but apart from the initial excitement I still think its the wrong side of £500. Still, going in right direction

When has AMD ever had a £400+ cpu? they were always in the low £300 range. Even Opterons.
