Next generation AMD cards to be launched at same time as BF4??

That puts AMD's 7XXX as a 22 month generation?
Biggest bunch of idiots going given the momentum they had.

I agreed before and I agree again.

Nothing about 28nm or 20nm either coming from AMD and at least give loyal fans a snip of what to expect in the next release.

The thing is, these is still nothing available from NVidia within the sub £400 bracket which whoops the 7900's. They may be old hat (and of pensionable age), but they will still compete with the GTX770 (glorified GTX 680). even if the >£500 GTX 780 is out of reach.

What is surprising is that AMD have not "refined" the 7900's is a similar way to 5800-6900 improvements?

edit: AMD are asking for problems collaborating with EA on a joint product release. If anyone can delay or spectacularly ruin a launch it is EA. AMD are in bed with the devil and they had better order plenty of lube.

Ageing or not, the 70 whips anything bar 780/Titan, but they are priced way, way above the 79's price point.

AMD stated time and time again they were running with the 79's for the most part of this year, October 29 sounds like when the new card would surface to coincide with BF4 release.

How many units does everyone think gets shifted above £250 never mind £350?

There is by far more profit to be made selling more cheaper gpus than selling less numbers of higher priced gpus.

AMD also have all the consoles to push out the door too, I think they will know where the monies lie.;)

Really?

Yet AMD have dramatically won market share from their main competitor with a product which had a 22 month lifespan.

To me sounds like they made a great business decision that also means they should be still with us in 2014 and the foreseeable future.

But it is no good sitting back. Capitalise on the great success of the 7 series and keep pushing ahead.

How many one hit wonders have we forgotten but the greats keep on releasing.

AMD's revenue and margin have suffered due to heavy price cutting of both graphics and CPU parts. The 7900 is a more expensive part than the GTX 670/680/770, yet AMD have had to sell at a lower price to retain market share. The 7900's have a much larger GPU die, more expensive PCB with 384bit bus, and 50% more GDDR5, yet sell for less than the "much lower specced yet equal performing" NVidia cards.

Both companies are diverting efforts into next gen consoles, so we can expect fewer and less frequent newcomers into the PC arena. I still believe than Titan was the original planned opposition for the 7900's, but AMD spectacularly under-delivered, allowing NVidia to profit from it's next gen GTX560 replacement, the hastily renamed GTX680.

They rested on their laurels with the 5XXX, which did the same thing as the 7XXX.

AMD don't have the same luxury as Nvidia, they can't just sit around and twiddle their thumbs.
There is no single AMD GPU that can max everything at 1080p, Tomb Raider at 1920x1080 TressFX and 4x SA runs pretty awful.
More and more games are going to come out and there will be no choice but Multi GPU or Nvidia.

The 7XXX has been brilliant for them, but since when did massive success come from doing nothing? Samsung in the mobile market wouldn't be in the position they are in now if they'd waited 22 months for a new product after they'd released the S2 which began to steal away iPhone users. Different market, but it's kinda the same thing, Samsung versus Apple (AMD Versus Nvidia)

An interesting point. This would equate AMD to Apple, whom many now believe have sat on their backsides doing not very much innovative since the original iPhone and iPad arrived. The worrying thing for AMD is that they do not have a huge cash stockpile to fall back on. They need to continually launch successful products just to survive, and really need a killer product such as a reincarnated 9700Pro or Athlon 64 to make a full recovery possible. Maybe tying-in with Sony's PS4 can achieve this, if Sony allows them some profit margin, and if the PS4 wins the console battle. The funny thing is, great success for the PS4 (or XBOB ONE) will for sure place another in the PC coffin, which is currently a very large piece of their business.

But they have not sat back. Their next GPU is ready, they know what is the best time for them to enter the market from a business proposition.

Simple fact is they have not just held their market share Q1 this year in desktop they won market share from their biggest competitor particular with 7800 and 7900 series.

We need them to do what is best for their business, if that means longer product cycles then so be it. Would you rather they just pleased us with new product releases and low prices to end up bust leaving NVIDIA as the only GPU vendor in the market. No competition would be very bad!

I'm sure the AMD guys know what they are doing and if early speculations/rumours are true then there next card looks like a serious performer for a single GPU product.

Hence why NVIDIA are reacting in regards to pricing very soon. ;)

Competition is good and AMD are keeping NVIDIA on their toes......

Doesn't matter for AMD what console wins the wars, AMD are in all.
Backing both horses makes you more likely to win, but also means you may back a loser. Both horses can also dead-heat or finish lame, although this time around my money is on Sony. Microsoft have upset too many fans before even launching the ONE., but I digress.

Looks like they are angling for the Christmas market - which would make sense they'd struggle to realise the full sales potential unless the cards were significantly faster than Titan or proper next gen 20nm releaseing in the wake of the 700 series launch. Releasing before Titan would have given nVidia too many possibilities to spoil their launch also.

Im not sure i agree with you here. Reason being that those who are already on a pc is on a pc due to the specific nature of it, including but not limited to the specific controls available. Also when the PS4 gets launched, which would be the closest thing to a thread to pc gaming(even though i dont see it as one), we would most likely get much better ports due to the similar hardware natur between the PS4 and the PC, which would further improve the experience of playing a game on PC due to less technical issues.

I know i didnt mention xbox one but thats because, if you were to take anything from the revealing of it, its a joke due to the main focus MS seems to have right now for their Xbox (not being about core gaming but more about overall control of your living room spite the fact that most tvs can already do this)

I didn't realise we had gone off topic?

Are you still certain that this will be on 20nm or have you gone to my way of thinking and they will still be using 28nm?

What are you talking about?

I don't what it is. And what difference is it to you that I come around to your way of thinking?

20nm or 28nm it does not make a blind bit of difference to me as long as its a worthwhile improvement on the 7970.

Risky releasing at the same time as the PS4 (not sure on Xbox One's release date)? I am far from a business man and sit up a crane all day but I would want to get my product out before those are released. (I know they are competing with themselves).
